2023 Sliding Rock Cottage - Creekside, Waterfalls, Hiking -1hr Asheville Airport

Family, Friends, & Guests – welcome to The Sliding Rock Cottage, EST. July 2023. Located in Old Fort, North Carolina, Gateway Mountain is a private, gated community consisting of a 3,000-acre nature preserve that adjoins 10,000-acres of conservation land nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Enjoy the peaceful sounds as you wander through our 7-acre private lot - warmup by the outdoor fire pit or indoor fireplace, enjoy a competitive game of corn hole, or take a soak in the hot tub; you'll fall in love with the undisturbed surroundings of nature. Relish the mountain air, listen to the waterfalls rush down the sliding rock, and just enjoy life!

The creek behind the house is Sallie Davis Creek. Enter the creek at your own risk, but this is a fun creek to explore, and we highly recommend it! If you go downstream about 30 yards from the waterfalls, you’ll find the infamous Sliding Rock.

As a guest of this private and isolated community, you’ll have access to hiking trails, a picnic area, our magnificent Standing Rock waterfall, use of Lake George, and the trout pond for catch-and-release fishing (no license required).

PLAN TO ARRIVE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS THE FIRST TIME. To get to this stunning cottage, you will have to navigate mountain roads consisting of twists and turns. Getting here is part of the voyage. Keep your eyes out, you may see a deer or turkey! During the winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snowplow operations are possible within Gateway Mountain. From December - February, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles.

Enter through Gateway Mountain’s main gate. Our house is located off McKenzie Way North. Follow the signs towards Kents Trail as the road splits a few times. Take the road down the hill and carry on until the road comes to a fork. Turn left on McKenzie Way N and get ready to turn right, down the driveway. This is us – careful going down the hill.

Please note: No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community. There is private parking on-premises.

At the SLIDING ROCK COTTAGE, you will SLEEP WELL, as all beds have "DreamCloud Mattresses" and luxury linens.

Sliding Rock Cottage is a beautiful 15-minute drive to the town of Old Fort where you can enjoy a delicious burger and cold beer from Hillman Brewing and 25-minutes to the charming towns of Black Mountain and Marion. Ashville, The Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, are all within 30–60-minute drive away.
