The Space:
Malden Sur Hudson is a majestic and historic estate sitting high above the banks of the Hudson River. This rare European style home built was in 1833 by John Bigelow, the former US ambassador to France under Abraham Lincoln. The property has been meticulously renovated to preserve it’s history while also adding modern amenities and impeccable design. Enjoy the stunning 7-acres.
Upon entering, the first thing you’ll notice is the Lebanese tile throughout the formal entry hall and open floor plan blended with exposed brick and soft, warm colors. The dining room has exposed beaming and large picture windows, flooding the room with natural light. Large French doors flow into the stunning DeVol kitchen. The large island with cooking ware hung above, is the centerpiece and place to relax and watch the show in this chef’s kitchen.
The most impressive room of the home is the great room with floor to ceiling windows and bookend fireplaces overlooking the Hudson River. Lounge on any number of the design-forward couches as you take in the steady flow of the river and it’s passing birds and boats. The well-appointed bar is the hub for social activity in this room, and gives off Casablanca nights vibes. Walk through the french doors to the spacious and timeless flagstone patio. A spacious office is nestled off the great room, perfect for remote work days, if you must. Rounding out the primary floor is a half bath and a walk in pantry in the kitchen.
Rising the impressive staircase leads to the first landing with three guest bedrooms, each with a luxurious en-suite bath. The pastel pink room has a Queen sized bed with an en-suite clawfoot bath. The corner pastel blue room has a Queen size bed and is flooded with natural light and has an en-suite, walk-in shower. The final guest suite has an exposed brick wall and a Queen sized bed with a full en -suite bath with a walk-in shower.
Climbing the half landing leads to the primary bedroom suite, a large and impressive room with views overlooking the Hudson. The exposed brick of the angled chimney adds a touch of character to a soothing and spacious bedroom. French doors open up to a large vanity room with ample closet space. To round out this suite is a spa-like luxe full bath with dual sinks and a walk in shower beside a clawfoot tub.
In the lower level of the home is large media room exposed beaming and brick throughout. The spacious couch is the perfect place to nestle in for movie night. Beside the couch is a small home gym, and a doorway to the laundry room. Rounding out the lower level is an additional full bath with a walk in shower.
Outside, enjoy the 7 acres of private land with open fields and explore worthy paths down to the shores of the Hudson River with over six hundred feet of frontage along a deep, private cove. There is also a kayak available for guest's to enjoy a paddle - our river access provides a safe and clean section of the Hudson River. Behind the home is a large vegetable garden, the freshest vegetables and herbs for your dinner plans. A small fire pit and hammock sit beside the flagstone patio. Enjoy the serenity and simplicity to this timeless property with old growth trees offering shade on sunny days.
Malden Sur Hudson is a rare gem and a time capsule of life in the Hudson River Valley from years gone by. If you are looking to regally entertain, gather with family, or simply get away from it all, in a very private setting adjacent to undisturbed state lands, you will find no better destination. Centrally located just 5 minutes from Main St. in Saugerties or under 25 minutes gets you to Woodstock, Kingston and Hudson.
