My wife and I spent a week at Hanalei Zen Retreat in early October and had a wonderful time. Despite being very close to one other house, it is situated in such a way that it is an incredibly private retreat. There was quite a bit of construction going on down the street, but it did not disturb us in the least due to the property layout. The house itself is incredible with a great view of the ocean in the distance, a beautiful pool, and a deck/lanai. The view from the upstairs bedroom is wonderful.Location is great, less than a five minute drive to the commercial center and grocery store, 10 minutes to Hanelei Beach and Blue Dolphin Fish Market (great fresh fish), and a 15 minute walk to the ocean if you are a surfer.The air conditioning in the bedroom works nicely, and the downstairs stayed cool and comfortable with the (screened) doors open and the ceiling fans on.This is a quality-built house with nice interior finish and real wood floors - it looks like cherry wood floors, which is a soft wood and requires extra care - like no shoes and be careful not to drop anything heavy. While this makes the house a wonderful place to stay, it is NOT a party house - and I don't think i would be comfortable bringing young kids to this house unless they were already accustomed to needing to be careful and not throwing things around inside of the house - this wonderful house deserves a lot of respect and care.I highly recommend this house and hope to return in the not-to-distant future.
