Located at the edge of an urban canyon in the historic Kensington neighborhood of San Diego. Three private bedrooms open up to an expansive formal sitting room, dining room, custom kitchen, and living room. Head outside and you'll find a expansive deck lounge area, fire pit, and hot tub with outdoor shower. The Ethelda Retreat truly embodies what the Southern California lifestyle is all about. From the high end stylish furniture and curated decor, to the lavish private outdoor entertaining area, you'll feel right at home.

Every Coast to Cactus home comes stocked with all the basics you will need to feel right at home. We provide: High speed Wifi, Smart TV's with streaming capabilities, nicely appointed kitchens, complimentary coffee, bath essentials, and premium sheets, linens and towels. You'll also find a starter pack of toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, dish soap, dish pods, and laundry detergent.

Formal chairs and sofa's adorn this central space, perfect for listening to music or reading a book.

Living Room
Adjacent to the kitchen you'll find the living room with sofa sectional, flat screen tv. Family board games available to guests.

Dining Room
Adjacent to the kitchen and sitting room is a dining room table with seating for 6-8.

For those who like to cook, the kitchen has modern appliances including: dishwasher, fridge, blender, stove top, coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils.

Two full bathrooms are stocked with items including: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and fresh towels. One bathroom is an ensuite bath attached to master bedroom. The second bathroom is shared between bedroom 2 & 3. The half bath is located near the entryway and sitting rooms.

By Booking this home, all guests must agree to the following House Rules and Booking Policies:
1. Rental Agreement & Guest Screening: By moving forward with this reservation, a rental agreement must be signed by the primary guest. You give permission to the property manager to verify your identity and check criminal databases to confirm the reservation. Verification requires uploading a valid ID, Drivers License, or Passport, along with a self photo of the primary reservation holder. Confirmed reservations are conditional and may be cancelled pending verification results.
2. Check-in is at 4 pm. Check-out time is any time before 11 am. You're welcome to request an early check in or late checkout, subject to availability. We are unable to confirm availability until 24 hours prior to arrival or departure.
3. Parties, events, or excessive noise are not allowed. Please be respectful of our neighbors and observe quiet hours from 9PM-9AM. Violations after our initial warning may result in your removal from the property. We are located in a residential community and, although this is a vacation destination, it's home to many people. As such we ask that you respect their privacy and peaceful environment.
4. We do not allow smoking of any kind anywhere on the premises; including the use of e-cigarettes and marijuana. Those found in violation will incur a $250 cleaning fee.
5. Pets are not permitted anywhere on the premises, unless with written permission from your host.
6. Guests take full responsibility for any accidents, injuries, or illnesses that occur while on the premises or its facilities. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises. Guests recognize that they may personally purchase insurance to protect themselves in such events.
7. We understand accidents happen, so if there is any accidental or intentional damage caused to the home, please let us know prior to your departure.
8. This property may have video surveillance in outdoor public spaces to ensure the safety and security of all guests. There are no cameras inside the home. Noise meters may also be present in and around the property to ensure quiet hours are followed. We will only receive a notification of a noise event if the noise decibel threshold is exceeded. Please try to keep the fun at a respectful decibel level during the day, but at night we ask for no loud noises after 9 pm — if this sounds like something that will not work for your group, our property might not be the right one for you.
9. Guests are prohibited from carrying or otherwise possessing a firearm at any time on property grounds, including carrying firearms in an open or concealed manner. This policy applies to all types of firearms.
10. Occupancy is limited to the number of guests you indicate on your reservation. Any additional guests or visitors must be approved by your host.
11. Any items left behind can be sent back for a handling fee of $25 plus the cost to ship and must be prepared before the item will be sent.
12. Have fun, and please respect the home and host!

Great place for a family stay. Enjoyed the hot tub and large screen TV. Lovely separate dining room for family meals. Well furnished private back deck and yard. We literally just needed a place to sleep while attending my son’s family day and graduation at MCRD. But this place would have definitely been cool if we had more time to chill and relax. Great Home, Great Location

The home is awesome, more than enough room for our family of 5. The neighborhood is great as well, with main street Kensington just a short walk from the house on quiet neighborhood streets. The backyard area with deck, grill, firepit and hot tub was a huge bonus that we enjoyed each night after our days out and about in SD. The location may be the best part, as the house was a short drive from just about everything we did - SD Airport, Petco Park / Downtown, Sea World, SD Zoo, Ocean Beach, Mission Bay, etc. We will definitely stay here again during our next trip to San Diego.

Home away from home

The house was as described. It was clean, well appointed, with all the comforts of home. Communication with the host was great. Whenever we had questions we texted them and they were very responsive. Boot Camp Graduation

Immaculate, well appointed home with modern features and appliances. We loved the kitchen and bathrooms with high quality fixtures and the hot tub which was clean and ready to use when we arrived. Landscaping and outdoor seating areas were a plus. Would only recommend possibly adding darker shades in the master for later sleeping with our time zone change.

Perfect spot for college move in

This little retreat was a perfect home base for moving my daughter into her apartment at SDSU. It was close to campus and also very quiet and tranquil. The outdoor area is very nice for sipping coffee and planning the day. Lots of construction going on just across the road, but the noise wasn't too bad.

Great VRBO in San Diego!

As an owner and operator of my own VRBO in Phoenix, I know a good VRBO from a bad one. This house was fully stocked. They took care and consideration in every part of the house to create a convenient and at-home experience. The hot tub and private backyard was a great feature! The only critique I would give is that the Keurig coffee machine was difficult to use. Other than that, I would definitely stay here again!

An Amazing Place!

We were in town for a short weekend stay and couldn’t believe how lovely this property was! All 5 members of our party said the same thing… this was the most beautifully decorated and perfectly outfitted place any of us had ever stayed. From the variety of spots to hang out outside (including a spotlessly clean hot-tub) to the 3 spacious family areas inside, we loved everything about this home. The kitchen had every amenity we could want, from new cookware and utensils to beautiful place settings. The only complaint was that we didn’t have more time to really enjoy the house fully. This will be our go-to place in San Diego from now on!

Super Cute, Conveniently Located

We stayed at the Ethelda retreat for two weeks and loved every day of it. The place was well stocked with all the essentials and the place was very comfy. There were some issues with overall cleanliness, e.g. the couch was dirty and we lost the remote in the couch we lifted a cushion to find a myriad of food crumbs, hair and general dirt. Another concern was the number of spiders. I was actually bitten while sleeping on the couch. Not fun. Overall though we loved the location. It was 15 mins from everywhere and Kensington is adorable. We loved the local coffee shops, parks and sushi spot.

Good property, unresponsive managers.

I mistakenly thought you were people in the neighborhood renting out the property. That you aren’t explains a lot. The dishwasher was clogged the whole time. The cushions on the porch were wet, and the light bulb over the kitchen counter was missing. I reported this, but nothing was done, even though you said you would come the next day. The arrangement of everything was quite nice in the house. If we rent it again, I would ask that the garden crew come to mow and blow AFTER we leave.
