Located on North Captiva Island, in Safety Harbor Club, this comfortable home is conveniently located near beaches, pools, and boat docks. The house is nestled among the native palms, and has a private, wildlife-friendly setting you will love. Song birds and gopher tortoises take refuge on the property, and guests enjoy sharing the peaceful sanctuary. Beautiful beaches and refreshing pools are a short walk (5 minutes or less) or a couple minutes away by golf cart (included see details below*). North Captiva is a bridge-less, car-free island situated in between the coastal barrier islands of Captiva and Cayo Costa. Transportation is provided by scheduled water taxis, private charter, or your own boat. The island has over 5 miles of pristine sandy beaches to explore and the southern portion includes over 350 acres of protected state park land. Golf carts, bicycles, and sandy feet are the typical mode of transportation (shoes are optional).

Guests of Gumbo Limbo will be registered with both The Island Club at North Captiva and the Safety Harbor Club and will have use of their amenities including their 3 large pools, tennis & pickle ball courts, private beach access and use of sea kayaks and bicycles. Through special arrangement with the host, a boat dock space can be rented for a daily fee at the Safety Harbor Club wharf (boat registration & insurance info will be needed for SHC). With, or without a boat, guests will enjoy fishing, wildlife watching or enjoying sunrises and moonrises from the harbor docks. In order to provide additional value and convenience to guests, Gumbo Limbo is currently including the use of its golf cart as an amenity for guests (*conditions apply, see details below).

Gumbo Limbo is available for up to 6 guests. The first level of the house includes the living and dining areas, the first floor porches and decks, an outdoor shower, a kitchen, first floor bedroom and bathroom. There is a queen sized bed in the bedroom and a couch with queen size pull out bed in the living area. The second level (accessed by spiral staircase) included 2 full size beds, an attached bathroom with bathtub/shower, and a small outdoor deck (perfect for star gazing or sun bathing). Starlink internet service offers fast reliable internet for guests.

* Golf Cart Details:

1. Golf Cart Use is only offered for groups of 4 or less. If you have more than 4 people in your group, you must rent a second golf cart in order to use the Gumbo Limbo cart. "Boats and Fun", located on North Captiva, offers golf cart rentals.

2. The Gumbo Limbo golf cart, is offered to guests for their transportation convenience (to the beaches, pools and docks). It is not offered as a recreational activity. Cart use should be minimal.

3. Guests who will be driving the golf cart must provide copies of their driver’s licenses and complete a Golf Cart Use Agreement.

A week in paradise at Gumbo Limbo

Gumbo Limbo was heavenly. The house is beautifully decorated and immaculately maintained. Everything we needed was there: a fully stocked kitchen of cookware, filtered water and ice maker, cozy linens, comfy furniture and all beach accessories.The location is perfect, quietly nestled in among the lush landscape and a short golf cart ride to beaches and resort pools.Sandy's advance recommendations, check-in instructions and welcome package surpassed what this professional event-planner expected.We had a few minor questions during our stay and Sandy's response time was lightning fast and helpful.Groceries from Publix/Instacart was a snap and very much needed. There is really nowhere to shop on the island the the little markets are insanely expensive.Advance reservations for over-the-water restaurant highly recommended and remember to bring your own wine/beer when you go there for dinner.We had so much fun exploring all of the beaches and resort offerings. We were completely "at home" in no time. Can't wait to return next year!

Gumbo Limbo Paradise

This property is exactly as described, or better! Sandy, the host is responsive and accommodating, though there were absolutely no issues. The home is immaculate and well appointed with everything needed for a carefree family get away. The property is private, surrounded by lush trees and plants; without a lot of cart or foot traffic. My family loved the outdoor shower for after beach sand removal! The beds and linens were very comfortable. Though an easy 5-10 minute walk to a beach, I would recommend a golf cart rental to comfortably explore the island and transport umbrellas, picnic items, etc to beaches with ease. Sandy is a very informative host, providing recommendations and considerations to make your stay as simple as possible. We thank her for sharing her home with us and will definitely return!!!

Absolutely perfect!

Our family of five stayed at Gumbo Limbo July 6-13, and everyone thought it was perfect! This property is very well maintained, appointed with just about anything you could possibly want, and is very conveniently located in relation to docks and the beach. Sandy (the host) is exceptionally responsive and helpful, especially if this were your first time on North Cap. She sends you an e-packet full of info on logistics, groceries, and island amenities. Morning coffee on the back porch swing was heaven, and the outdoor shower is epic, perfect for washing off the sand and salt! The kitchen? Smh, it's better stocked than our own! The kids loved the upstairs loft, with it's own bath, balcony, and TV. After a long day of beach life, they'd all just crash up there and relax. We've stayed in places up and down Captiva/Sanibel over the years, and combining this house with the overall North Cap vibe, we rate it the best. Thank you Sandy, we really could not have been happier!

Unforgettable Family Getaway at Gumbo Limbo in North Captiva Island Home

Our family of six, including two adults and four children aged 4-12, had the most incredible stay at Sandy's beautiful home on North Captiva Island. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the charm and convenience of this centrally located gem. The kitchen was a dream, equipped with everything we needed to cook every meal. The highlight for the kids (and adults!) was the ice cream machine, which added a fun and delicious touch to our evenings. Access to both island clubs was a fantastic perk, providing us with plenty of activities and entertainment options. Gumbo Limbo thoughtfully provided every beach essential imaginable, saving us from the hassle of lugging extra luggage. From umbrellas to beach toys, we had everything we needed for a perfect beach day. Sandy's responsiveness and dedication to ensuring our stay was perfect truly stood out. Best Spring Break Ever!!

Magical island property, perfect fit for our family of four. We loved access to TWO swimming pools, the tennis courts, and endless beach exploration. Simply Amazing

This is our 4th place we have stayed on the island and it truly was our favourite. We are big tennis players, so proximity to safety harbour was key. Although the house looks at the courts, the neighbour does not allow you to cross his property so the walk is a little longer than expected. Also great to have membership/easy access to island club. Teens loved being able to walk everywhere. House is immaculate and host were wonderful to deal with. Absolutely will be back. FYI cart rental is separate. Not sure anyone ever showered inside, outdoor shower was a bonus.

AMAZING!

Gorgeous home with everything we needed for cooking and beach fun! Really appreciated access to the two clubs' pool and amenities- quite a chilly week so it was great to be able to hit the pool and get out of the wind at the beach. We used Debbie at Fresh Pick Grocery for grocery shopping and delivery, she's fantastic! We will definitely be back, thanks for everything Sandy!

Trendy, Relaxing, Comfortable, Peaceful & Modern

Gumbo Limbo is a beautiful home, only a short walk from Island Club and Safety Harbor swimming pools with privileges at both. It has a spacious, modern, well-stocked kitchen and an open floor plan with tasteful, lovely furnishings. The owners were only a text away and responded quickly to our questions. With an outdoor shower, we could always wash off the sand from our shell-collecting adventures and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets on the beach before coming inside after our long days on North Captiva. The kitchen has purified drinking water and a wonderful ice machine, paper towels and napkins, and a cabinet with salt and pepper and an assortment of spices. Our bungalow also had a washer and dryer stocked with laundry soap and softener, bath soap, and shampoo and conditioner. The beds are comfortable and a quiet AC kept indoor temps perfect. We had ample clean bath towels and a big basket of beach towels for our use. Don’t forget to reserve a golf cart ahead (cost in summer 2023 is $79/day) as the house did not provide one. The homeowners left us personal notes, treats, and a nice welcome gift. We highly recommend this beautiful beach home and would gladly stay here again.

Wonderful Rental!

This is a beautiful and well maintained rental property. My kids and I really enjoyed our stay on North Captiva and in this property. Lovely furniture, new appliances, and just a nice space to be in -- lots of natural light and a beautiful setting around it. Owners were easy to work with and made the whole process a pleasure. Amazing island, lovely accomodations - perfect for our small family

We cannot say enough about our experience on North Captiva Island! The accommodations were perfectly appointed with just what we needed (kitchen and bath essentials, high chair, pack'nplay, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc.) We loved the proximity to the beach and access to the pools for the kids. As of March 2023, there is no store on the island so make sure to bring any consumables with you! Homes and amenities are still recovering from the hurricane. One restaurant is open and another only for lunch. Loved seeing the Gopher Tortoises, manatees, dolphins, osprey, etc. Host was very thorough and helpful with figuring out the logistics (taxi, ferry, golf cart rental, etc.) Cannot wait to plan a return trip!

North Captiva Island is an important part of our children's heritage. We have owned property on the island and have built 6 houses in the past 23 years. Our previous house was Sea Urchins Beach House along the shore on the southeast side of the runway. Before that, we built 2 other "Sea Urchins" houses in Safety Harbor Club. There we enjoyed all the Club's amenities including its private beach, pool, wharf and boat docks. After our grandson Tucker was born, we decided to downsize and purchase a property in the Bahamas (Sea Biscuit on Man O War Cay, Abaco), but we didn't want to leave North Captiva behind. We wanted Tucker to make some of the same beach-filled, sun-kissed, seaside memories with his family. So we purchased a small existing house in Safety Harbor Club and started the renovations. We incorporated many of the architectural details that can be found in the other houses we built, and overlaid them into an existing structure that was built over 25 years ago. We love the location in Safety Harbor Club because it offers us, and our guests, many amenities and conveniences including the boat docks, outstanding fishing from the wharf, and easy access to the beach (about 5 minutes walk) from the house. We named the house "Gumbo Limbo" after a native tree that is often found growing on top of Indian mounds along the barrier islands in South Florida. The tree grows easily from a branch that gets planted in soil, and our children (now adults) have grown many such trees over the years from branches they found on North Captiva and Cayo Costa. We are hoping our "Gumbo Limbo" , now rooted, will offer beautiful shelter, and flourish for many years to come. We look forward to enjoying it, while also sharing it with guests who want to make their own family memories on North Captiva Island.
