Welcome to Misty Shoals Haven - Soul Retreat! Situated in a secluded location north of Duluth with easy access, you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Most days, there's no one else in sight. Enjoy the peace and quiet of Northeastern Minnesota! With 300 feet of private lake front, a public boat landing nearby, and plenty of wildlife, you're sure to enjoy the starry skies, sunrises, moonrises, and maybe the Northern Lights!
The space
You'll be staying in a 1 room cabin with 1 dbl/1 futon/1 twin/1 toddler bed and a sleeping loft with mats but NO BAGS, RIGHT on the waters edge. The loft sleeps 6 kids or 4 adults easily! There is an old fashioned washstand with basin and pitcher for sponge baths and a Culligan dispenser that provides hot and cold water. There is an outdoor toilet down the walk. In the summer there is a solar shower outside and a hose hand wash station on the patio. You have light cooking capability with a kitchenette in unit, an apartment size fridge/freezer, and your own porch, patio, lake access, gas grill, and firepit. There is also indoor entertainment with a library and cards, dice, cribbage, puzzles, games, etc. North facing for serene sunrises, moonrises, and Northern Lights under starry skies. This isn't a 5 star hotel stay but more like a glorified camper cabin with the whole place to yourselves, non commercialized yet a residence on site for back up. Set up old time everything you need but keeping it simple. Call it Glamping 2.0 Granny Cottage style Plus. Old logger bunkhouse plus ambience! All newly renovated space. Then private acreage to spread out when you venture outdoors. A beautiful escape affectionately referred to by me as 'downtime'. Hope you'll love it too!
Guest access
You are welcome to use the whole yard and beach but may have to share with us or company at times, as well as an open bonfire area with attached grill at the edge of the beach and the lower patio bistros for extra dining space. We sometimes invite guests to join us on our deck for am coffee or evening visit but otherwise we reserve that space for our private use. There is also a garden area with hot tub. We have been gathering all the rems of raising kids here to have available for renters to use Boats, floaties, sleds, snowshoes, water and snow skis and boards, a hand auger, skates and blades. The beauty of this place is you can come, play, try out new things, fall down, laugh, have fun, all free, no worries..... yet we are surrounded by pay to play sites of all the same activities for the pros in the family..
We are always working to increase sustainability features, using timers, sensors, and solar lighting, planting no-mow clover lawns, recycling, dark sky periods, artificial lighting use reduction, pollinator gardens, kitchen water reuse, off peak, dual.fuel, hot water heat, back up generator, and are hoping to add solar to the farm panel that feeds the cabin, garage, and hottub for a great first step.
We want EVERYONE to feel welcome here and value your input if something makes you uncomfortable. It is never intentional here. Also, everyone please read the guest info and guidebook ahead of time, lots of useful info that will save time figuring out things to spend on the fun stuff instead. This little cabin is loaded up for a convenient stay as is frequently mentioned in reviews. Our goal is easy downtime for any age or group or activity preference. So far so good, we have enjoyed families and friend groups large and small, boaters, readers, tourists, marathoners, and even witnessed a chess game on the beach! Come one, come all! Only requirement is to unwind.
Other things to note
There's hardly a place you can go to be so secluded yet 2 miles off the highway with boat access, and have a beach all to yourself yet easy access and low risk being on a private residence. This makes it especially ideal for those wanting to experience snow country first time, remote winter work, or my favorite, snowed in hideaway. While you'll be surrounded by outdoor activity venues for everything from hiking, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, birding, ATVg, sliding, ethnic festivals...we have it all.
There is parking that is accessible with a step free path to the cabin plus a loading area with half stairs. There are 2 steps up onto the entrance deck, and the cabin is tight for a wheelchair, so we are semi-accessible depending on level of disability and accompanying travel help. I myself am disabled but check the pictures to see if the space would work for your needs and feel free to call with questions. I know for myself it also depends on how long the day gets.
