Gorgeous eco-friendly Berkeley hills home & garden near UC Berkeley
The North Berkeley Hills Homestay is a beautiful home in a wonderful neighborhood in the Berkeley hills. Guests enjoy the serenity, art collection, and proximity to nature, culture, and everything the Bay Area has to offer. We are renting 2 bedrooms in a 3-bdrm home, with a possible 3rd bedroom as an option, for an additional charge, for the (somewhat flexible) dates May 1 to July 15, 2025.
Guests from from more than 25 countries have enjoyed serene stays here. Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood close to transit, shopping, restaurants, UC Berkeley, and nature! You're welcome whether you're here to visit Cal (just 2 miles away), connect with family or friends, look for a place to live, take classes, or seek respite from chemically toxic environments. Many guests with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) and environmental illness (EI) find a safe and healthy refuge here. We provide high-quality fragrance-free soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shaving cream, and after-shave for guests without their own.
There is free high-speed WiFi available throughout the house and guests are welcome to use the well-equipped kitchen for their meal preparation.
The Asia Suite is a beautiful, spacious room with an en suite bath. It has a very supportive queen bed guests always rave about. Other furnishings include a Danish modern rocker and a bamboo cafe table with two chairs.
The Library is a warm, cozy room filled with travel books and fun art from around the world. Guests sleep on a wonderful and supportive queen bed from the renowned McRoskey Mattress Co, which has been handcrafting beds in San Francisco since 1899.
The Treehouse — not included except as an option for an additional charge — is a charming, peaceful room that looks out on beautiful borrowed landscape and the glorious backyard. The large windows let in abundant light while protecting your privacy. Guests sleep soundly on a queen European Sleepworks mattress.
The Asia Suite and Library, or Asia Suite alone, are available for rent after the dates listed for the whole house while sharing the public rooms with the homeowner. We offer discounted rates for the Asia Suite only with another guest present. Please reach out if any of these options are of interest.
Though the neighborhood feels surprisingly peaceful in the lively Bay Area — deer are frequently seen "pruning" local gardens! — we're just a short walk from charming Kensington Village, where you'll find an old-fashioned drug store, post office, wine shop, restaurant, grocery store, ATM machine, café, and public transportation.
You'll have access to a gorgeous eat-in kitchen, lovely living room/dining room, back deck, and garden. You’re welcome to harvest anything from our organic garden while you're here. We host honeybees in the far corner of the yard, which are looked after by our beekeeper; while friendly, both tend to keep to themselves.
We've been hosting at this location since 2002, so the house is designed to be completely turn-key for guests. A comprehensive binder details everything you may want to know (and more!). We look forward to helping you feel at home while you're in the Bay Area.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Terry Mandel

I'm a native Californian who is also a world traveler. I host guests while I'm home as well as rent my house out while I'm away. I love meeting people, hearing their stories, and making their visits as delightful and easy as possible.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Thousand Oaks Heights is a peaceful neighborhood with a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Bay, just below a huge wilderness park with lots of hiking trails, a mile from Solano Ave, which is full of delicious restaurants and lovely shops, two miles north of UC Berkeley campus, a short bus ride to BART, and a 30-minute drive (outside of rush hour) into San Francisco! Whoo-hoo!
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
My home is beautiful, serene, well-equipped, and filled with art from around the world. Guests sleep very well here, saying they feel like they've entered a sanctuary, whether indoors or out in the spacious back garden.
