Fabulous Location

This property was located close enough to town and to the beach that we walked to both almost every day. We thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood. There are several grocery stores near by as well as restaurants. Management was quick to respond when we had some plumbing issues and it was fixed in a timely manner. The set up of the units was not exactly what I had expected. By nature of the arrangement of the units we were in close proximity to the other guests when we spent time in the back yard/near the pool, but all the other guests were lovely and we enjoyed chatting with them, so, while it wasn't what I had expected, it was still nice. Over all we had a great time. The kitchen was larger than I expected, so it was great for cooking and prepping food. The bed was comfortable. The artwork and custom shower mural were all beautiful. Re: Wifi, we did a partial working vacation; wifi was a bit slower than ideal. I didn't have much issue other than spotty zoom meetings occasionally, but my partner lost connection a few times while trying to work. There is a fairly inexpensive co-working space near by so that is an option, but we decided the wifi was sufficient enough we didn't need to use the co-working space.

Unit size grossly misrepresented at 700 sq.ft. but was actually only 350sq. ft.!

Upon walking in and we realized that only half the lights worked, and the size of the unit was significantly smaller than the 700 sq. ft. advertised. We also found several dead cockroaches. I immediately called the owner and mentioned these issues with her. When I said that the unit was greatly misrepresented, her comment back was, “It is?” She did mention that she was out of town but she would call her property manager and have her contact us. After much back and forth over the next few days, we were offered back 30% of the amount we had paid, or, we could pay more money and move into the big house. (I was the one to come up with the 30% refund). Because we were unable to find other accommodations in such a short period of time, we said yes to moving into her house. Our booking was for 1 month. We moved into the house on our 5th night and we would have to go back to the tiny unit for our last 8 nights. We received an email asking if we were going to move back to first unit or just moving out on the 27th. In my response I asked if we would be receiving back the money we paid for that time. “I’m sorry if I misled you or you misunderstood, but no, you will not be receiving a refund.” Unfortunately, another slew of emails went back and forth. In talking with some of the other guests, we heard dissatisfaction from a few of them. When I mentioned our situation, the discussion of maybe needing to file a small claim in court may be the remedy. A day or two later I noticed the cleaning people and I asked if I could take a look at the one bedroom unit. We loved the area and we would have no problem staying in that unit. In my conversation with them, I was asked if we were staying in the house. Yes, but that wasn’t what we had initially rented, that it had been the Ginger Gazebo but we had problems with the actual size, blah blah blah. (Which was a back and forth conversation). That afternoon we were being told to leave the property within the next day, two at the latest. An illegal eviction! It took a bit of back and forth emails with the owner, but we were told she would refund all monies paid for every night we would have left. We left in less that 48 hours. We were lucky to find a one bedroom hotel stay in downtown Honolulu. Things worked out for us, I just didn’t understand the need to fight for what was right! The unit would have been ok if our stay was short and it hadn’t rained the first 2 weeks, making the gazebo useless.

Everything is really nice we enjoyed our cute little home for the week. Marsha was very helpful you tend to all our needs there were just a couple little things that needed to be fit she was working on the barbecue for us getting us new barbecue utensils that can be used and I blow dryer wasn't very good so she got us a new one as I said it was very accommodating to what we needed we enjoyed our stay very much we would recommend it to our friends and family..

Perfect spot to relax and enjoy island life!

The property is tropical and well maintained. Our hostess Suzanne, was gracious, friendly and quick to respond when we had questions. We had everything we could possibly need to enjoy our stay!! The proximity to beaches, restaurants and stores was fabulous and walkable. The beauty of and quiet of the windward side of the island is amazing!

Lovely lodging near dreamy beaches

Beautiful property and comfortable bed. Didn’t get a chance to use the pool on account of being too busy at the beach. Effective air conditioner and large kitchen and refrigerator for a rental. Only complaint was that I wish the bedside tables had larger drawers for all the books I brought to read on the beach.

Great location, very nice property

Small but comfortable

This place was good and comfortable although we couldn't use the gazebo very often because of rain. Better luck next time with the weather! We ended up meeting the neighbors in the other units because we shared the lovely pool and hot tub. Delightful way to meet new people.

Very clean and well kept. Lovely backyard.

The owner was very nice and accomodating. Her home was extremely well kept and a joy to stay at. Parking can be a challenge at times if other guests are staying at the same time, but wasn't a problem swapping spots. The owner is very artistic and has her art pieces, which are for sale both at her place and at local shops, were placed perfectly around the home. I would highly recommend this location for couples looking for an out of the way place on the quiet east side of the island near the beach. The only downside is that the air conditioning is located only in the bedroom and the fan in the kitchen doesn't spin very fast, making it uncomfortable to stay indoors but you're coming here to explore the island anyway so wasn't a hassle really. Owner also lives on property but gives you plenty of space and was kind enough to stock the shelves with some essentials (coffee filters, plates, cups, dish drying rack, etc).

Quiet neighbourhood, but where is our hostess?

The bed was comfy, the kitchen was well equipped, the shower was large and the pool was refreshing. The gazebo makes a great place to sit and enjoy the breeze; however, if it was raining (as it often was during our stay), the kitchen is a bit cramped for relaxing in and we felt like schoolchildren after reading a couple of the rules - a $50 charge if you leave the AC on and the door open (who would do that?) and a $50 charge if you leave the whirlpool running (or something like that). Finally, we never did see our hostess - the door was unlocked, with the keys on the table, when we arrived and we left the keys on the table when we left. A bit unusual.

Small unit

This is a very small unit as stated in the information. Beautifull art work through out. The shower is a one of a kind the artistic design is very unique. Unit is very clean. There is more than enough kitchen equipement to cook all your meals in. Nice to find some staples such as condiments and cooking oil provided so didnt have to buy those. The king sized bed linen was very comfortable, faded and worn a bit. The bedroom is small with just enough room to walk around bed on both sides. Plenty of drawers for putting cloths in and a large closet. There is enough rom to store 2 empty suitcases comfirtably we had 4 so we were crowded.. It rained a lot whilr we were there so we did not get much use of the gazebo which was our living room. There are 2 dining chairs and a club chair in the kitchen. Ifit rainsthe only place for a 2nd person to sit is on the bed. We lives in Kailua in the past have friends there and we are aware that many homeowners rent out weekly units and are not licensed to do so. There are 3Rental units at this home we are assuming it was legal however had it not been and we had paid with a check we would have no recouse to get a refund if it was shut down when we arrived. when we read the note in notebook sayjng if neighbors ask tell them you are a guest of Suzanne dont engage in conversation we became a little more suspect of the legality. The cons for us were.we were told on our emailed instructions to park on thegeass spot to left of driveway, when we arrived that spot was in use we parked on the drive as there was a spot opren . When we read the notebook inside it said to park in grass spot by the street. Because of the rain this was muddy most of time and is basically street parking. We had no living room, no dishwasher, not a place we could invite 2 friends to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner as there are only 3 wine glasses. We were charged $48 twice becuse we used a credit card instead of reserving with a check. On this review I did not check I love this place I check the opposite yet it automatically checks that and does not allow you to change it. This unit is not one we would rent again.

Just beautiful

The Perfect Kailua Getaway!

We LOVED the Ginger Gazebo, not only was it an easy access to Kailua town, the beaches of Kailua & Lanikai but Susanne had all the amenities that you would want from Bikes, to beach chairs, umbrellas and more. It was Memorial Day weekend which is always busy in Kailua and it was so quiet and peaceful on her property! We will be staying here again, and honestly Susanne couldn't be a better host! Mahalo!

Good and not so good

This is a house in a residential neighborhood that the owner has converted into several rental spaces. During the time we were staying there we shared the property with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 others (a total of 7 and 9 including us). The house spans the property from side to side with just enough room for a walkway down each side. There is room in front for three parking spaces, a small lawn, a gazebo and the entry to the main house. The back yard is mostly filled with the pool and spa although there is a small lawn and deck that is associated with the main house. The landscaping is pleasant and does provide a measure of privacy from the neighbors. The pool and spa are also pleasant but hardly big enough for all of the residents to enjoy unless you figure out a way to take turns. The house and neighborhood are generally quiet but you should expect typical neighborhood noise. That's the good, now to the bad. We had the unit associated with the gazebo which was considered "our" outdoor space. The outdoor space is important as the units don't have a lot of interior room and it's pleasant outdoors. The gazebo was essentially our living room but it had no roof so it wasn't much use when it rained. And incoming service wires run overhead which makes a perfect spot for birds to roost....you know the rest. The furniture for our outdoor space needed to be refurbished or replaced. Two of the chairs were missing pads on the legs which made them wobbly and the metal structure of the table had corroded away inside of the wicker out covering. I'm not sure that it would have held if a person had leaned against it. The barbecue for our unit was rusted to the point of being useless and one of our two kitchen chairs was beginning to come apart as the glue was failing. The bed was comfortable but the covering was faded rather than the bright color shown in the pictures. Air conditioning is provided but apparently not getting regular service so were not operating very efficiently. One of our neighbors complained and was amazed at the difference basic maintenance made in it's operation. Hot water regulation is another issue but I don't have room to discuss that. The property could be much nicer than it is if the owner paid as much attention to the incidental items as she does the landscaping and pool. If you are comfortable with limited privacy and the owner fixes some of the problems I would stay here but I would look elsewhere first.

Great getaway

We found the Ginger Gazebo to have everything we needed. The room was personalized with lots of bright, creative touches as well as the owner's artwork. The King size bed was comfortable and the air conditioner in the bedroom worked great. There were bikes and boogie boards to use when we needed them. Overall, good experience!
