The Blue Door at Sylva Home Base Apartments

When hotels are too small and vacation cabins too expensive, Sylva Home Base Apartments strikes the perfect balance between comfort, affordability, and convenience.

We have the best location for all things in the Sylva, Webster, Cullowhee, and Dillsboro area. That's why we call it "Home Base", a central locale from which to explore all our area has to offer. A restful space to return to after a day of adventures or work to unwind, reflect, and get a good night's sleep.

You'll be staying in The Blue Door #3, which is three minutes to the historic main street of Sylva with its iconic courthouse and unique businesses, or to the shops of Dillsboro in about nine minutes. Western Carolina University in under ten minutes, and Southwestern Community College in five minutes. Four grocery stores are within five minutes, Harris hospital in four minutes, and easily satisfy a Starbucks craving in a two minute drive. 

Our central locale also offers convenience for a broader reach, with the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee, and Harrah's Casino all less than 20-minutes away. See the elk in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (GSMNP) in less than 30 minutes. Asheville and the Biltmore House are less than an hour away.

We created this HomeBase apartment to give you all the comforts of home while away from home—plus more. Its design is a spacious 1100 sq. ft. in a contemporary-rustic style with clean lines and minimal furnishings in organic earth tones, all of which provide a sense of calm and comfort.

The apartment is furnished with one king-size bed and one queen-size bed, both with quality memory foam mattresses.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything needed to prepare a homemade meal. But if you prefer quick and easy, there is a retro-cool microwave and a powerful Ninja blender for smoothies. The dining table and chairs are so comfortable, they will convert the most die-hard couch-eater into enjoying a meal like a civilized person :)

Speaking of comfortable furniture, the living room sofas are very relaxing to stretch out on while watching the 55" Roku Smart TV. Roku has a "Guest-Mode" which logs you out of your streaming channels upon checkout. Cool! The smart TV also lets you AirPlay or ScreenCast from your mobile devices. Or, just keep it simple and watch the live channels included.

We love technology, and tech is featured throughout the apartment. In addition to the Roku Smart TV mentioned above, there is a smart wifi lock which can be controlled via the keypad or mobile app. Your access code will be the last four digits of your phone number. FYI, there is a lockbox with a key on the back door as a backup. The thermostat is smart too, but can also be controlled manually, and there is a Ring doorbell for added security and convenience. If you have trouble with check-in, simply ring the doorbell and someone will communicate with you through the doorbell to solve any issues or let you in immediately.

We also like fast Internet, and this apartment features 300+Mbps speeds which should be plenty for even the most work-intensive jobs. We have designed a mesh network to provide full coverage with zero dead spots, and even have the TV hardwired to ethernet to increase performance. Finally, the living room, both bedrooms, and the office space have USB ports to charge your electronic devices.

For our Digital Nomads and Travel Professionals, we enhanced our office workspace to include a 32" HD display with HDMI cable, keyboard w/numeric keypad, USB hub, and laser printer/scanner.

In terms of amenities, we've got you covered too! We provide small, yet important, things like an iron, a blow dryer, soap, paper products, premium coffee and tea, and more.

You'll have access to the entire #3 Blue Door apartment with two assigned parking spaces. Our stays feature seamless automation from booking to checkout, but I'm only 10 minutes or a text away if needed.

NOTE: Must be able to climb stairs. There are 8 steps to the entrance and 15 steps from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor. All steps meet OSHA standards for tread rise and depth.

Our local thoroughfare, East Main St., is in the early stages of a major D.O.T. construction project. While we meticulously maintain our street, entrance, and parking, the incoming side street (Pathfinder) has potholes in the section scheduled to be relocated.

Online Maps do not give the most accurate directions to 30 Trueway, so I will send written directions the day before your arrival.

In an effort to maintain a secure premises, the property is equipped with an exterior camera and floodlight, and the apartment has a Ring doorbell. The cameras are ONLY on the exterior. They do not point inside any apartment, and there are no cameras on the inside.

Other security features include a Duke Power pole-mounted area light which illuminates the entire parking area, and each apartment has motion-activated flood lights at both the front and rear entrances.

Our checkout procedure is simple; leave it to us. I mean, that's why you pay a cleaning fee, right? As a traveler, having to both pay a cleaning fee AND have a laundry list of to-dos to check off before checkout has always been a pet peeve of mine. I promised myself that if I ever became a host, I wouldn't require my guests to perform such duties as they left. Mornings are hectic enough already. It takes three hours to clean the apartment to our high standards, and we pay our cleaners a living wage of $25 per hour, which is how our $75 cleaning fee is calculated.
No smoking, no pets, no parties. This apartment is not suitable for parties, events, hook-ups, or meet-ups. If these are your requirements, you would be better served at another property.

Wonderful Home Base

I stayed at the Blue Door Home Base apartment for a month to attend a summer class at local WCU. The apartment was wonderful in every way. Great location, super clean & comfy. The property owner is extremely helpful and responsive & he's thought of everything you could possibly need. It's a great rental & I really enjoyed my stay!

As advertised, this comfortable, immaculate townhome served as a great base for our trip to the NC mountains. We chose it for its location between Western Carolina U and Cherokee, but were delighted to discover the great restaurants and shops in Sylva. Easiest-to-follow directions/instructions from a host that we have ever encountered. Particularly appreciated the "no need to clean up (that's what the cleaning fee is for)" approach.
