Great family cottage overlooking white sand beaches. Features great room with electric fireplace, updated kitchen, high-speed wireless internet, flat-panel HDTV with Blue-ray player, reclining sofas, pack and play, home theater system and DVD library. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. 2 Kings, 4 Twins (2 sets of Bunkbeds). Great location needs some TLC

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Check-in process was easy and the staff was very helpful. The posting had limited pictures of the bathroom and the bedrooms. We assumed that the bedrooms would have closets but to our astonishment, they didn’t. The secondary bedroom didn’t have any storage other than a wire shelf hanging on the wall.

Forgotten Home on the Forgotten Coast

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location of this house cannot be beat. It’s a brief walk across the sand to get to the water. This is also the best quality of it by far. The house itself looks like it’s falling apart - from cracks in the ceiling to broken furniture and windows. One lamp was literally snapped in two. The outdoor shower is unusable as it does not have walls and the stairs sag and bounce at every step (and we aren’t huge humans). This property needs some serious maintenance and attention. They’ve refinished the kitchen area and part of one bathroom. We turned on one of the ceiling fans when we arrived and clumps of dust flew out of it for several minutes. The beach is great, so this rental would be tolerable if you didn’t need to stay inside much.

We LOVE Suncoast and Horton Cottage

This was our 3rd stay (2018,2022,2023) in the Horton Cottage. We will stay with Suncoast again, and I am sure we will stay in Horton Cottage again! Also, just a short drive from the house.....you will find the best coffee shop on island, check them out too, BAYSIDE COFFEE.

Anniversary Trip

The property overall is wonderful. It could use a luggage rack or 2. The bunk room is the only bedroom that has a closet & it's small. The master bedroom has a dresser which helps with storage but the second king room has no storage to speak of. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Girls weekend

Girls reunion weekend was a blast in a low key way here, by choice. We had everything we needed and really didn’t need to leave. The quick walk to the beach was perfect.

Super Great Location!

Needs a few upgrades and a better cleaning job, but you cannot beat the location. Decor could use some updating, but I would stay here again. The location cannot be beat.

Incredible location/old house

Rating Details: The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location is incredible with a beautiful view and super short trail to the beach. The house however, needs lots of work and updating. The bathrooms are partially updated but the toilets and toilet seats are super old and stained. The bedroom dressers and chest of drawers are very old, severely scratched and dinted. There are so many cords hanging everywhere in the house. It seemed like a hazard to me. The living room furniture was comfortable and adequate. There are pictures on the wall coming out of their frames in every room. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had been updated but was less than adequate. However, we don't cook much so it wasn't a problem. The steps going up to the house seems unstable. The house overall could use a deep cleaning. We found dirty socks, candy wrappers and water bottles under the bunk beds. The location was fabulous and we still enjoyed our week because we stayed on the beach. I would not recommend this house though. It could be very nice with some work. Last, we got to the island 15 minutes before the rental company closes and the house wasn't ready. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes to enter (after 5 p.m.)

Affordable stay on the Gulf

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Horton Cottage is an affordable house that gave my family a chance to stay on the gulf at a popular time of the year. Most houses are more expensive and therefore beyond our reach. For that, I am grateful and we enjoyed our stay. The house had a great selection of board games and puzzles which we enjoyed together. We rode bikes to and from the grocery store, so the location was super convenient for us. It is not a luxury house though (and to be fair, it represented as one by the rental agency).We had a few relatively small complaints mostly related to the cleanliness of the house. We found hair in the silverware drawer, so had to wash everything before eating. There was sand and shell fragments in the dryer, so had to clean it out before using. Also there was no ice maker in the fridge and no ice trays when we arrived, which was a surprise. The rental agency brought us trays the next morning though. Check in was at 4:00 and we arrived to SGI around 3:00. We went by the house to confirm that it was empty before going to the rental office. Even though it was vacated, we were not allowed to check in early. Again, a minor inconvenience that seemed a bit needless.

We actually went to the Dollar General Store and bought a 3 piece set (and left it there for future guests).

It was clean and it is apparent that the owners are in the process of fixing it up. As one of the older places on the beach it has only one flight of stairs. That was a distinct advantage for us.The kitchen has been remodeled and is lovely though not well equipped. We purchased a liquid measuring cup and left it for you. The beds were very comfortable. Bring blankets or warm pjs until Covid-19 is done. Also bring DVDs because they have been removed because of the virus. There are no closets or hangers, just a couple of hooks for hanging clothes so pack accordingly. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck morning, noon and night. We observed gulls, pelicans, dolphins, and sunrises. The gulf's white sand beaches are gorgeous.We would stay here again.

Pulled up to the house with great expectations what a disappointment old unkept home that needed many repairs. Only thing positive was the house was clean. Dark and dreary entrance into home with broken furniture tacky decor horrible mattresses poorly stocked kitchen much too small refrigerator ice maker worked when it felt like it. Poor furniture was broken and cracked railing on porch was fragile. House was updated in kitchen and bathroom showers and floors only. Wires galore hanging from cable boxes and TVs ver poorly installed. Said home theater that would include two small speakers screwed into ceiling and broken reclining couches. Said dvd library none found upon our stay. Very false advertising here with only showing the updated areas. And description is not accurate. We made the best of our visit and had a great time and will return next year but never again to this house or the rental company.

HORTON COTTAGE - 2 WEEK STAY

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: No closets in bedrooms which I had already read on earlier review so I took over the door hangers. I would suggest removing pictures and installing shelving that includes hanging bars for clothes. Enclosing a portion under the house would allow guests to keep beach stuff from being visible from the street. HC is an older home but it is still a nice place to stay with an excellent ocean view, easy sand path to beach, great A/C, and comfortable beds. With a little work and minor updates this place could be greatly improved to better serve guests. Deck chairs were good but lounge chairs were broken. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Beach, Home Could Use an Upgrade

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have been to SGI many years in a row, unfortunately our "usual" house was grabbed up before we were able to book it this year. We selected Horton Cottage based on the photos and description but should have taken the reviews into account a bit more. The location is amazing, and really what we were there for. That being said, Horton Cottage is probably 40-50 years old and it shows. This property could definitely use a deep clean and bit of an upgrade. Outdoor furniture and steps were aging and splintering. Indoors was very dusty and we spent an hour sweeping and vacuuming when we checked in. Didn't feel comfortable using the fan in one room because of the thick dust sitting on the blades and its proximity to the top bunks where are kids were sleeping. There is definitely some regular maintenance needed to bring Horton Cottage up to where it could be. We would return for its location but will try other properties if possible for cleanliness and maintenance.
