We did our homework for this stay which was 3 weeks. The view of the ocean from the balcony is like none other. You will not see a sunrise though as the building faces too far south. The Passion Bakery across the street is fantastic. There is a farmer’s market within walking distance on Tuesday and Thursday. It is also convenient to shopping, the south shore and north shore. However, here’s what they don’t tell you; the construction on Kuhio Highway causes massive backups and delays in Kapa’a and the property is right next to, and I mean right next to, the highway. Make sure you get a room on the far end. The front of the building looks at a gas station. As for the condo itself it is as described, dated. The pots and pans were adequate but also well worn. The photos make everything look shiny but, it’s not. The sofa cushions are so worn as to have no cushion and badly need to be replaced or restuffed. During our stay of 3 weeks I had hoped to get some work accomplished and needed reliable internet, you won’t get that here. I had to reset the modem everyday, some days multiple times. You do have a view of the derelict Coco Palms hotel as well there is a derelict building at the end of the building nearest the road. We don’t recommend the beach there either.
Yes, we read and knew about the lack of A/C except in the bedroom. Yes, you do have trade winds which do create a nice breeze however it can still be hot and humid in the unit. Also, if the winds are strong they can create such a howling as to make listening to a television, radio, or music difficult. Strong winds can also create a cacauphony of noise as big waves hit the rocks. The bed room has A/C and is the most comfortable room, mostly because of the A/C but they ask that you only run it at night and at a certain temperature. It can be loud when trying to sleep.
Marvis, the woman on site is a delightful woman. Enjoyable to talk and a fount of local information and history. She was very responsive, a highlight of our stay.
Mark, also on site was a nice guy, responsive, respectful and seemed to be always working.
Bottom line, the cons far out weighed the pros, we won’t be returning. I don’t know this for certain but to me it doesn’t look like any upgrades have been done in this century.
My only motivation for writing this is because we had known more of this we wouldn’t have booked here. We mean no harm but we believe potential renters need to know this stuff.
