Experienced Vrbo user and have never had an experience like this one.
We booked this home for the Kentucky Derby as we were excited to stay in Louisville and this looked like a great spot! When we arrived at 5pm on check-in day, we were immediately greeted with a smoke-filled house. There was no mention in the listing of smoking and this was a health concern for our guests.
Beds were not made, the kitchen hadn't been cleaned yet, and we were informed by the host that the cleaning crew was running behind. We immediately notified the host that the house smelled of smoke and we had guests coming with us that would not be able to stay there if we couldn't address the issue.
Their cleaning crew showed up and made the beds and cleaned the kitchen. Meanwhile, we left the house to meet up with some other people in town for dinner. When our other guests showed up to the house an hour later, they were surprised to find stained pillows and stained sheets on the beds. The smoke smell was a serious health issue for one of our guests specifically. We once again notified the host that this was an issue and also mentioned the unsatisfactory condition of the sheets and the bugs in the house and on the bed. The host asked us to send photos, which we did. They never responded to us again after this.
We reached out to vrbo as well for their assistance and they told us that we had to work through the host, who was completely non-responsive at this point. We ended up staying at a hotel.
