This picture shows a different and much bigger holiday house next door. The flat where we stayed is literally one small room up and one down, with a roughly built open staircase which has a loose top post and an incomplete safety rail at the top. It's serviceable for a night but not comfortable for a longer stay as the many minor faults start to add up. Dark gloomy kitchen with poor lighting and limited furnishings. Satisfactory appliances apart from the totally disintegrated bread/chopping board and no chopping knives, Bathroom is downstairs off the kitchen and has plenty of hot water but no natural light and an incredibly noisy fan you can't switch off - ended up washing in the dark it was so annoying! Up the creaking stairs to the bedroom, where the divan bed with separate but joined mattresses was large and comfortable, but the pillows too large and too soft. The sofa in the bedroom was broken so that when you sat on it, the seat slid out underneath you. The curtains throughout are very flimsy and transparent and there is a street light right outside, so eye masks are essential. Central heating was just about adequate on full power since we were out most of the time, except that all the heat ends up upstairs where you need it least, but it would not have been comfortable in cold or wet weather. as the radiators never really get very hot..
The worst feature of the flat was the cheap plastic windows upstairs, which have no fittings to hold them in an open position and therefore bang continually when it's windy, as it was on our first night,. Incredibly they even creaked and groaned like they were being tortured when tightly shut, so I got very little sleep that night. The next night I managed to jam them open with bits of wood, but really I don't recommend you stay here during windy weather.
A good feature was the key safe which meant we could arrive late and let ourselves in.
It's a lovely area and we will definitely come back for more woodland walks and riverside rambles, but not to this house or this street, which was surprisingly busy with traffic in the early hours of the morning.
