## Emplacement
Gérardmer is a commune in the Grand-Est region of France, in the Vosges department of Lorraine. Nicknamed the Pearl of the Vosges by Victor Hugo's brother Abel, it is located not far from Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. A winter sports resort, the town is known for its scenery and cultural activities.

Gérardmer, according to historians, was founded in 1285, and has a long shared history with the duchy of Lorraine and the abbey of the canons of Remiremont. Established as a parish in the mid-sixteenth century, the town grew rapidly in the eighteenth century with the arrival of the railroads, followed by the arrival of Alsatian textile manufacturers after the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine by Germany.

Although the town suffered much destruction during the Second World War, it continues to be appreciated by tourists for its charm and sports facilities. It still boasts an interesting architectural heritage, as well as exceptional landscapes.
