## Emplacement
City of Art and History, Vannes is located at the gates of the Gulf of Morbihan, south of Brittany, on the estuary of Marle.
Already fortified by the Romans, the city developed inside its ramparts in medieval times, then outside in the seventeenth century, with the construction of many mansions.
Residence of the Dukes of Brittany, Vannes has a beautiful historic heart, with 171 half-timbered houses! You can visit it as part of a guided tour, aboard a small train or in total autonomy.
You will first admire the medieval ramparts, among the best preserved in Brittany, which give rise to a charming walk by the Garenne, a path that runs along them, punctuated by gardens and pretty wash houses.
After discovering the port, with its tree-lined quays including the Quai de la Rabine, take the 17th century Porte Saint-Vincent, pierced to connect the port and the historic district: you enter the old town by a street lined with old buildings, mansions and half-timbered houses. Go up to the Place des Lices where you will find the 1912 halls. Dedicated to food products, they welcome you on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays morning, as well as Saturdays all day.
