A little history :
The old faubourg of Chartrons is the historic stronghold of wine merchants. Its history is also marked by colonial trade. The most distant origins of the district, to which it owes its name, date back to the 14ᵉ century when a community of Carthusian monks settled there.
The great Flemish, Irish and English merchant families arrived here in the 17ᵉ century. By the 18ᵉ, the port of Lune was the largest in France.
In the 19ᵉ century, the Bordelais wine industry was at its height and the district was home to the largest merchants in the sector.
Neglected after the Second World War, the Chartrons district found a new lease of life at the dawn of the 21ᵉ century: its beautiful facades have now been restored, and its pleasant alleyways are teeming with antique shops, art galleries and interior design shops.
