Not what was advertised

We were looking forward to a peaceful stay at a well maintained prperty. It was not at all like the pictures. First of all, we received no pass code to get into the house. After contactibg VRBO, and numerous attempts to contact the property managet, we were told it was unlocked. When adked for a key to lock the cottage when we left, we were told that people don't want to leave and do not lock it. That is unacceptable! The grounds had not been mowed in a couple weeks and no weeding had taken place. The boards on the eooden deck were lose and sticking up. There was a very active hornets nest attached to the underside of the picnic table thst was on the deck. The cute buildins pictured were filled with junk and could not be used. The lake was scummy and the lake frontage was covered with cat tails. The pier was old and looked unsafe. Fishing was out. There is no internet service and no tv service. There is a dvd player a some movies to watch. The cell service was spotty at best. At night the place was very dark. There were no security lights

My husband and I did thoroughly enjoy the peace and tranquility of our time away at this cottage. The same can be true for anyone who stays here! However, in the interest of full honesty, I feel that I have to mention that the listing is not up to date. There is a change in host - it is no longer Rebecca. The charming days of this cottage are past. It's still very doable, but it's now an older cottage, and the grounds are starting to be neglected. The internet was so weak that it was nonexistent; thus, the TV did not work. Communication was not very good: host cannot be reached by phone; after wondering and worrying about how we were going to get in (the door was left open for us), the host emailed a day later to tell us the door would be open.

Quiet lakeside getaway

This property was amazing. 10 acres of woods with a large private lake. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet and relaxation. There are lots of small towns nearby that are fun to explore. The host family were so kind and personable. Thank you!

No wifi

I contacted host prior to renting, asked if wifi works. I had my 87 year old dad with me. Phone reception very spotty there. I was not pleased. I asked her why it wasn’t working, she said there is nothing they can do. Cable people showed up while I was at work, and the only internet we had was being shared from another, 1mbps. No tv to watch, and black army Ants everywhere. The floor in the bathroom is collapsing. Toilet is not secured to floor. All boards on porch are bowed and lifted, and dangerous. I paid a lot hoping my dad would have fun. I may stop renting houses, and do extended stay..

Disappointed, no longer great.

We chose this place for our 10th-anniversary getaway based on the reviews and photos. We never met or talked to Don or Rebecca, the hosts mentioned in the reviews. All our communication was with "Stacy," suggesting a possible transition in property management or ownership. While we expected a romantic getaway, the property was disappointing. The photos showed beautiful grounds with a clear view of the lake, but there was organic debris everywhere, including the steps, walkways, and deck. The lake view was blocked significantly by overgrowth, unlike in the photos. We noticed other structures on the property were falling apart, some likely once housing poultry mentioned in earlier reviews. Inside, the cottage was beautifully decorated and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the four-season room was our favorite. We also discovered there was no WiFi, contrary to the listing, which was a big deal for us. We plugged in the modem, but the password didn’t work. Additionally, we had no phone service (Verizon), rendering our iPhone hotspots useless. This impacted us in several ways: we couldn’t monitor our pets at home, work remotely, stay updated with news or sports, or use the TV. We had to go into town to use WiFi. We messaged Stacy twice about the issue but didn’t hear back until the last night of our stay. By then, it didn’t matter since we were leaving the next morning. We hope this place can be restored to the fantastic getaway it once was. The potential is there.

Northern Cottage

We had a wonderful 5 day vacation at this cottage. My husband was so excited about the fishing. The bass were hungry. He caught 9!!!! We enjoyed our stay.

Quiet get-away!

This cottage is a very special place. It has magical qualities. It’s perfect for the couple that wants to get away and have quiet time together. We so enjoyed our time together at the cottage. We had a sunny day and a rainy day. It was a slow, quiet rain perfect for staying in or a short walk. It was nice to experience both. There are so many things to do that there is no reason to get bored. We grilled out one night and then drove into Albion for dinner on the second night. Albion is within a 10 minute drive. A very nice little town. This is actually my second’s visit to the cottage, and I cannot wait to visit again! Next visit is to see the snow on the trees and the ground. I can only imagine how beautiful it’s going to be! The hostess is so kind and has everything just perfect for you!

Awesome place.

Very quaint and private. The grounds are roomy with a private lake for fishing and kayaking. The cottage is spacious with amenities provided. The hosts are perfect and bring fresh eggs in the morning. This was our 4th year staying here.

From the moment I entered the property I was mesmerized! Everything was perfect. The moment I looked at the front door and stepped through I relaxed. The inside was charming. I quickly looked at all the rooms. The screened in sunroom on the side quickly became my favorite room! Each morning I made my way out here and sat and enjoyed listening to the wildlife. Hearing the peacock in the distance was perfect! The grounds were also mesmerizing! Everywhere you turned there was something to look at or to sit down and relax. A little fishing shed where you could clean your fish after you caught it in the lake. Because there was a boat to row out in the lake and fish out of. A little tea house to sit in to read and relax. Walk around the lake, seats to fish as you walk, ending with the chickens, silkies, and peacocks. There was more, but you’ll need to go out there and discover it for yourself! It’s beauty cannot be rivaled! Did I say honeymoon spot?

Hidden gem

Relax hike enjoy nature at it best! Beautiful well maintained trails. Enough to spend hours wandering around and finding treasures along the way. The lake, which is larger than it looks and is clean and safe for swimming with lots of piers to jump off. The lawn leading to the lake was mowed and a perfect place to play fetch. The house was very clean and the amenities were more than adequate. Much larger than expected. Very comfortable and welcoming. Rebecca and Don, owners, were the best host. My first morning, Rebecca brought me fresh eggs for breakfast. There raise peacocks pheasant and hens of all types. Rebecca and Don showed me around the birds and the historical buildings they have saved and remodeled for all sorts of uses like hen houses and pens for the other birds. A must see! Kids will love finding frogs and all sorts of fun critters. Bugs were non-existent; which allowed sitting outside and looking at stars or having a fire in the fire pit. Overall, great people who will do anything to help make your visit more enjoyable. I enjoyed many conversations with Rebecca and Don. Please consider this property for a family (plenty of room for kids to sleep). This is not a primitive property, you have everything you need from 3 fireplaces, internet, large tv, lots of sitting areas inside, outside, and a nice screened in porch and a full stocked kitchen. If you go, you will return! I know we will. Thank you!

Peaceful

A unique and peacefully quite property. Go out on the lake in the rowboat and catch some fish or just drift along and take in natures activities. You can hike around the lake and explore and check out all the buildings if you wish. They even have peacocks and chickens. The house is clean and well maintained. You will find everything you need except groceries. If you like peace and quiet this place has your name on it.

A PRIVATE PARADISE

This place was perfect! Secluded & private. The hosts were friendly & accomodating. Loved the fresh eggs, walking around the lake, the animals, and my husband loved the fishing!! He caught so many fish!! The use of the paddleboat & row boat is a big plus too! New fridge & stove too! Loved the comfy bed. Small town not too far away if you want to get out for awhile. We'll be back.

Quiet retreat

Had a nice 5 day getaway that wasn’t too far. Caught 13 large bass. A nice walking trail around the lake that had plants, little piers if you didn’t want to take the boat provided along with lovely birdhouses scattered about. There was a nice swing near the shore & hammock as well as couple Adirondack chairs. We didn’t start a fire in the evenings but there was a firepit if you were so enclosed. Very nice hosts , Don & Rebecca. We enjoyed meeting the beautiful peacocks & chickens! The hosts also supplied us with farm fresh eggs! Would highly recommend this little getaway! Bed was very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped with cooking supplies and was decorated beautifully inside👍❤️

Relaxing Location

We chose the spot for its quiet and country atmosphere. We were not disappointed. The place was full of wildlife, the pond was beautiful and the fountain in it was very relaxing. We watched a small painter turtle and bull frog on the shore each morning and evening. We definitely would like to visit again. And spend more time at the property this time.

A wonderful, unique, " magical" property

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this well- kept, wonderfully decorated, quiet and peaceful cabin. The lake and trail around it were peaceful and pleasant. The proximity to Chain O Lakes S.P. allowed us to hike for longer distances and kayak. We hope to return in the Fall. Loved the little decorated cabins and sheds nearby, and thenpeacocks and chickens.

Wonderful Memories

It was just like going back to our childhood cabin on the lake. Warm and cozy felt like stepping back in time. Rebecca and Don were great. The fresh eggs were out of this world. We are definitely going back in June. Very quite and peaceful. A great place to decompress. Highly recommend.

A Must Stay!

One of the best weekends was spent at this charming cottage. Rebecca and Don were such lovely hosts. The property is off the beaten path and so quirky and charming. We fell in love with it! Our dog was in heaven, as well. Walk right out to the back to your little piece of Heaven with the lake, trees and everything in between! We absolutely cannot wait to return! Always A Great Time!

This was our second visit, and we had a wonderful time! It was cold and rainy when we arrived, and a fire was waiting for us so the house was warm and welcoming. We take our two small dogs with us, and this is a great place for them too! Looking forward to visiting again!
