My husband and I (we are in our seventies) have been here for 5 weeks and one more week to go. We love the pool especially after swimming in the ocean. The pool is cool and 5 feet deep and I swim circular laps. No one has been in the other units, as we have been here during low season, so it's wonderful, as is the price. BUT if there were people here you would not know it, as patios and balconies either hidden in the foliage and trees or hidden on the other side of the buildings. This unit is great as we have view of the pool. The other unit on the main floor does not, but it is larger. Upstairs is the penthouse.
Playacar Phase 1 is located in a secured gated residential area with security biking around 24/7 and very friendly (in fact we forgot the beach chairs and umbrella one night, as it rained and security had them at their office. The beach is the best in Playa del Carmen. Further down are massive hotels.
Amir, maintenance guy, and wife, Miriam, and 9 yr old son Elio are so helpful. Our maid Dalia is very sweet. They will attend to all your needs. Amir brings me books from other units when I run out. Carlos is the property manager and speaks fluent English. He and the owner rectified a bad functioning water heater immediately.
5th Avenue, “the street” is 3 blocks away. We usually walk a block and a half to the end of our street and then take the jungle stone path in back of the Archeological Zone or cut through the Archeological Zone to Starbucks, Oxxo, convenient store, and to 5th Ave and the Pier to Cozumel OR walk there on the beach... it's quicker. We walk everywhere...the in English fairly recent movies in the Mall about a mile or so away across the hiway, walking along the quiet residential street. We walk to the grocery stores, Walmart, Chadraui (I like the best, as can get Havarti cheese) Soriana and Mega. It's a very walkable town and you should do it to get the flavor of the place. The farther back from 5th Ave, the cheaper the prices.
If you want an English speaking church. Fellowship Church meets at 10:45 at the City Express Hotel at the entrance off the hiway to Playacar. It also meets in Paamul in a huge palapa south of here and has a women's Beth Moore Bible study at 9:30 on Tuesday this winter. Pastor Doug Miller's wife, Darla leads it. I got a ride from someone who had a car. It doesn't matter how many times you aare able to go.
