Enjoy floors of pure fun in this sophisticated and surprisingly playful Dupont Circle space. Serious cleaning protocol & disinfecting!! Closest freestanding home to the WhiteHouse -- walkability score 100%. Highlighted in Washington Post; this home beauty once housed Supreme Court Justice Holmes Jr. & now welcomes all visitors - especially families. 1.5 blocks from Circle. 3 blocks from Foggy Bottom. 10 blks from Georgetown. And, nearly across street from Metro... You will love it! :-)
The space
Serious cleaning protocol & disinfecting!! Airbnb has partnered with experts in health and hospitality to create an enhanced cleaning protocol that helps support us hosts as travel evolves. We follow it religiously. Cleaning is a serious business for our family to be sure you are extra safe when you stay with us.
The home is steeped in history and love. Walk through the same front door that Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. greeted Washington's elite early in the century. You will appreciate the grandeur of the first floor and the modern amenities of the floors above.
We have lived here happily for over 15 years and the last 10 with our kids during which time the house has transformed in hidden but profound ways. It has a warm spirit and is infused with tons of love. My entire career has been in the creative fields --- and my wife's should have been. Our best work is this magical space. We hear time and again that our guests enjoy playing in our home as much as they enjoy DC. I am sure you will love it too.
Sip wine on the second floor deck while your kids swing from the indoor rope ladder or play pirates on the back deck... ship's wheel included. And, don't forget, the unassuming coffee table you see pictured pops up with a set of wooden trains and tracks. See if you can run the battery powered train up to the top level of the table with the tracks included!! :-)
Step down to the elegant first floor offices too if you need private time on a zoom call.

And, bed time ... BED TIME !... that's when the fun begins. There are four distinct bedrooms. In the first room (the kids room) a safari jeep bed, suited to a 10 year old, races beneath a loft bed extraordinaire, suited to a person of 5'11" and willing to sleep in the clouds... (recent guest of 5'6" said it was tight but but many tall guests have loved it so... all relative). With two reading nooks and connected by sky ladders this room is a kids heaven and a favorite destination for sleepovers. In the second adjoining bedroom (the master bedroom) is an extremely comfortable queen bed and long desk space. And, for a little privacy, use the third bedroom space (a queen-sized murphy-bed) on the floor below and throw open the deck door to be woken by bird and street song. This room is separated by a divider from the living room and best suited of the couple likely to stay up the latest or raid the fridge at night. It's my favorite spot! The most private and largest bedroom of all is on the first floor as you enter. (only 7 guests +). It functions as an office by day and a queen-sized murphy bed folds out of the wall for the eve. Finally, the last potential sleeping area is the L-shaped sofa pictured in the ad.
=============================================================
I would say our house comfortably sleeps three couples plus one teenager under 5'11" and one child of 10... or, for budget-sensitive hipsters, placing two more adults toe-to-toe on the long L-shared sofa seen in the ad is a crazy reality a few guests have already successfully pioneered. If you want the sofa area to be reasonably comfortable for two adults you can take the mattress from the loft bed upstairs and place it on the floor beneath or use the inflatable bed stashed in the creativity room. There are lots of possibilities.
This is a far cry from any stuffy hotel. It's a fun flexible award-winning 1890's house with all the splinters and all the charm that entails.
Other things to note
Transportation abounds.
=============================================================
This is the ideal place to walk the city, as centrally located as you could ever want.
=============================================================
We are also 1.5 blocks from the red line, and about 8 minute walk from the blue/orange line.
=============================================================
Uber is great in DC too, and if you prefer to cab the St Gregory and Mandarin Hotels are a hundred feet away in either direction on NH Ave. and always have a cab line going.
=============================================================
If you bring your own car we potentially have a spot available for you in our driveway at a rate of $25/night - much less than public parking in the area. Just contact us and reserve the spot right away... first come first served.
=============================================================
Washington BikeShare is also only 400 feet away.
