Welcome to the Kona Makai! For those who have stayed here before, you already know what a fantastic property this is - in every way. If you've never stayed, now's the time! We've now decided to share our personal home with guests as well. And as you will see we have excellent traveller ratings. The Kona Makai is an Ocean Front Complex located on famous Alii Drive just over a mile south of historic Kona Village. It is well known for it's beautiful grounds with immaculately maintained Hawaiian native plants. You can enjoy ocean front seating with loungers, feel the ocean spray on your face, and listen to the rolling waves. Most mornings spinner dolphins travel by right out front sometime around 7:30am and then travel back again in the late afternoon. This same area will provide amazing sunsets where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine, BBQ, dine and have some good conversation with your fellow travelers. The large heated salt water pool has a maximum depth of 8 feet and the relaxing spa are both steps from the ocean. This a quiet complex with tennis courts, heated salt water pool, spa, exercise rooms, and ping pong. It is best suited for couples and families with older children (14 and older).
No detail has been missed here and we are pleased to now share our personal home with guests. This is a 1 Bedroom , 1 Bath Unit, with a loft on the top floor of a three-story walk up with soaring open beam ceilings. This spacious condo has granite counter tops, upgraded kitchen cabinets, and tile floors. The bathroom is completely redone, and the master has beautiful King Size bedroom furniture. There are 65" 4K smart TV's in both the living room and the master bedroom. Incredible Ocean views from both lanais - off the living room and the master bedroom. The loft has a new memory foam queen size bed . The unit is fully equipped with Bosch washer/dryer, towels, linens, dishes, and shopping bags for purchasing your groceries etc. And everything you need for a day at the beach is included: chairs, beach/pool lounge pads, beach towels, a cooler, an umbrella, snorkeling noodles, and plastic dishes for the pool/beach.

You will instantly feel at home here!

Kona Koffee

Very comfortable stay in Kona! Clean and spacious. The King bed was so comfy. Ample kitchen and a beautiful view from the lanai. Close to restaurants. The salt water pool was refreshing. The view of the ocean and sunsets were wonderful from our lanai. Hoping to return one day.

Outstanding condo and setting

The location of the unit is right in the middle of the complex. I provides easy access to the pool area and ocean front. I here are lounge chairs literally steps away from the surf - so close you can be splashed on while relaxing watching the sunset. The unit itself ie exceptionally clean. Everything looks literally brand new! It’s well furnished with kitchen supplies and comfortable to enjoy inside and out. Robert is a highly responsive and gracious host. We’d certainly stay again!

Wonderful stay!

We always love stay at the Kona Makai complex and this unit did not disappoint! Very clean with all amenities needed for a lovely stay! Great communication with owners. Perfect location for getting around the island. Listening to the waves crash onto the shore at night was an added bonus!

Excellent stay

We had a wonderful stay in this condo and it’s even better than the pictures. It’s a wonderful complex with a nice pool and hot tub. Kitchen is fully equipped and ready for anything and the bed is comfortable. There are chairs and boogie boards for the beach. We couldn’t have asked for anything better!

Everything needed plus

Super-stocked condo, nice grounds, beach equipment, easy access/parking, walking distance to heart of town, slept to sounds of crashing surf! Very nice pool, roomy sunbathing areas poolside and oceanside. Grandkids 2 resorts north visited to play and have dinner 2 afternoons and were gone by "quiet hours". Perfect.

Highly recommend!

This was a wonderful place to stay! Location was great, the property was very clean, tastefully furnished and decorated and very well-stocked with everything that you ever need! The bed, linens and pillows were very nice and were comfortable. The lanai has a lovely garden and ocean view, the outside grounds are very well maintained. Pool was heated and very clean. Would definitely not hesitate to stay there again :)

If I had an issue and I mean if, it would be shower setup. I let too much water leak out and set off the water alarm. Scared the crap out of me My daughter and me figured it out and no other trouble happened. Toilet seat was partially broken but was not a deal breaker. Great property, great value, great location, great view.

Kona Kailua Perfection

This property worked perfectly for two of us. We have stayed in the complex previously and were very happy to find a suitable unit to stay in again and it did not disappoint. The overall location of the property in Kona Kailua is close enough to town to easily walk in to enjoy what it has to offer. The condo unit itself was very well equipped with everything we needed. All of the appliances worked very well including the countertop oven which I was very impressed with. The king bed was comfortable and there were a multitude of pillows to choose from. All of the beach necessities were there for our use which made our beach days stress free. Parking is ample on the property and the barbeques down by the water (I think there are 6) make cooking dinner a wonderful experience. We didn't use any air conditioning as the flow of air through the unit from front to back and use of fans provided a very comfortable temperature to enjoy. Overall this property was absolutely everything we look for in a short term stay and we would not hesitate to stay there again....and hope to!

Nicest unit in kona Makai

This was our fifth October stay at Kona Makai and the fourth in a different unit. This unit has the nicest decor, large screen TVs in both the living and bedrooms, strong WiFi, tiled floor throughout including on both lanais, ceiling fans in all living areas, the best one being above the main lanai where we spent most of our time, AC units in both the living area and main bedroom, neither of which we needed to use due to a good flow of air through the unit entrance and lanai(s) doors and the windows above the loft, and all the necessary kitchen items one might need. The only appliance missing was an oven should an occupant need one. The only shortcomings (2) we felt were the lanai seating which has a set of 4 high bar chairs with accompanying high table. The chairs were difficult to get in and out of and were very uncomfortable. The other was the small washing machine which limited how much could be washed so required multiple washes. Other than that, the unit's north facing location is the best as the sun doesn't shine on the lanai allowing one to stay somewhat cool on 80 degree plus days. Another benefit is the palm tree next to the south facing lanai which provides some privacy from the Sea Cliff neighbors. Still the best unit we have stayed in at Kona Makai and the best loft unit.

Beautiful place and great accommodations!

The property was as described. Easy to find. Beautiful setting. Property was extremely nice. It was a little busy getting in and out of the property because the Ironman World Championship was happening the day after we left, so lots of extra runners and bicyclists. During normal times in sure it's easier to get in and out. Would use this place again.

Rob & Darlene were amazing hosts who provided my friend and I with the perfect oasis to escape from work and rest. The location is right by downtown Kona, but just enough away to be quiet, with amazing views, especially by the pool area. Cannot say enough good things about this place and we hope to return!

We would stay here at the Kona Makai again (Sept 11-16 2023)

We would stay here at the Kona Makai again. Many ammenities at this location were excelent. The condo was clean and modern. It had all the cooking and dining utensils you would ever want. The grounds were perfectly manicured Nice pool area with gas barbecue A great area near the pool to sit and watch amazing sunsets with waves breaking near your feet. A well equipped workout area. Very quiet and peaceful (I think there are mostly full-time tenants with a few rental condos) Exceptional views from both lanis. A spacious loft with a queen sized bed and a desk area. A nice bedroom with a king sized bed and finally, the bathroom that was modern with a nice shower. Cons: It is a bit of a walk to resteraunts and shopping. We are seniors and it is a walk up three floors to the condo. We considdered the trade off of a higher floor totally worth it for the view. We would have rented a car when we arrived in Kona if we had known the amount if walking we would be doing. To be fair there is a very nice trolly system to get around but the times we could grab it never seemed to line up with what we were doing. Uber did not show twice. Also, there is so much beauty within driving distance. We went back to the airport and rented a car eventually and I recomend doing that. I only gave communication with management 4 stars because we had no real contact with them. This was fine with us because they really covered all the bases perfectly and there were no problems.

BETTER THAN ADVERTISED

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week as my graduation present from college. We loved staying here! Super clean, the neighbors are nice and quiet and the place is really homie. There is even boogie boards, beach chairs and other good stuff in the bedroom closet so no need for rentals! If you are looking for a nice place to stay, that is close to stores and a beach within a 5 min drive, this is the spot!

Kona Makai is perfectly located just south of Old Kona Town. It's a 20 minute walk on Historic, oceanfront Alii Drive. The property is beautifully landscaped and the condos are incredibly spacious and well planned out. You will love everything here!
