My fiancé and I and her parents spent 5 days in the BWCA and we were looking for a way to extend our “Up North” vacation. We had planned our BWCA trip well in advance, but renting a cabin for right after the trip was more of an afterthought, as we only booked it about a month or so in advance. Although we were only a month out in booking, there were still other available options in Ely, Winton, Shagawa Lake, and Vermillion. We chose this property for a number of reasons; the location and the photos gave us a good feeling, and we felt that the pricing, which was competitive with all the other available properties, afforded us better value in terms of amenities and space.
Upon arrival, we were definitely not disappointed. I was astounded at how beautiful the property is, both scenically and in terms of decor and upkeep, both inside and out. Even better than the pictures! I noticed that the property has a campus feel to it. The gorgeous main A-frame, which came fully stocked with everything we needed, is flanked by a smaller outbuilding with a washer and dryer in it. Just a short walk to the north is a guest bunk house, which also houses the Sauna. Of concern for us was a restroom facility for whomever would stay in the bunk house, however, we found that a clean, tastefully done outhouse is located immediately next to the bunk house (we were very impressed). Lastly, as we walked through the main A-frame, we came to a beautiful deck overlooking the lake with a top notch patio set and a gazebo which is adjoined by the deck.
We had no problems whatsoever with meal prep, food storage, or sleeping arrangements. They have a state of the art propane grill that runs perfectly, which we put to good use. We ate our breakfasts on the deck and dinners in the gazebo, followed by evening beverages in which we could listen to the loons and nature sounds of the lake before retiring. You will also have your choice of two docks going to the lake. We made particular use of their nice new dock for reading/lounging and swimming. They have kayaks and a canoe available onsite (we were all canoed out after paddling into gusty winds for three straight days in BWCA). We even had a chance to meet the owners who are some of the most friendly, accommodating, and down to earth folks, who shared both our enthusiasm for the area and sense of adventure. We had great discussions with them. This is a true family enterprise, we loved our stay, and I can’t recommend it enough!!
