Beautiful, secluded cabin nestled at 3200 ft elevation on Bearwallow Mountain, close to hiking, restaurants, Lake Lure & Chimney Rock, and Asheville, and we boast the best-tasting spring water you've ever tried - straight out of the tap! Large back deck with gentle rope lighting for the evenings, and a pass-through window straight to the kitchen.
While it's a great place for just one or two couples, one of our best features is the ability to accommodate larger families & groups with our basement-level Bear's Den room. No, it's not the Taj Mahal down there, but it is a comfortable, clean room that has a queen and two double beds and a full en-suite bathroom which makes it a perfect sleeping space for a family of four, or perhaps for the adults to sleep in the two rooms upstairs bedrooms, and 3-4 kids in the Bear's Den.
Plenty of craft breweries & cideries within a 20-30 min drive; mainly because of our ultra-high-quality drinking water. Also a few vineyards! Full grocery stores about 20 min away, but there's the small/local Bearwallow Provision Company just at the bottom of the mountain for some local & healthy foods.
We've decorated Bearwallow Cabin with beautiful, large custom photo art, shot locally by us. While our professional photographic portfolio spans 50+ countries, the main reason we love living here is the easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Florence Nature Preserve, the Biltmore, and SO MANY countless other stunning local places that we love to photograph. In the welcome book, you'll even find a coupon code for our art website, in case you just have to have a little (or very, very large, which is our specialty!) piece of Appalachia shipped to your home!
The indoor fireplace is great, but being outside here is what its all about, so there's a fire pit adjacent to the larger driveway with plenty of seating on the 3 benches or 4 patio chairs in the garage.
Now a quick note about managing expectations for a mountain cabin. First off, remember there is no TV connection, and while our Verizon cell service is good, don't expect to stream 4K movies. During autumn, there's a LOT of falling leaves - very pretty actually. We feel quite comfortable in the summer without AC because of the large trees shading the entire house & property, and there is a ceiling fan in every room. There is about a mile of unpaved road near the cabin, but it's fine for regular cars (some of our neighbors own sedans or coupes) - however, during the uncommon winter storm (maybe one or two weeks per year), it's possible for there to be some ice which is no problem for those accustomed to it, but challenging for, say, Floridians. We recommend a 4Wheel drive vehicle in winter if snow/ice are forecast. We run a clean ship, but you might see seasonal bugs & wildlife. Its actually quite civilized, but for the city-slickers, don't be surprised if you see a ladybug, a spider, opossum, racoon, wild turkeys, etc. And while very rare, it isn't called BEARwallow Mountain for nothing :) We employ a professional pest control company with an ongoing contract, but being near nature is a big part of why we come here. If the sight of a deer will make you loose your s....tuffing - maybe you'd be more comfortable at a regular Hyatt than our mountain cabin.
