The Fisherman’s Cottage in Mount Dora, Florida is the kind of place that’s easy to drift into — clean, quiet, and swimming with thoughtful details and artful aquatic-themed touches that made our stay both comfortable and visually inspiring. From the moment we walked in, it was clear this wasn’t just another drop in the sea of short-term rentals. The cottage was spotless — like, freshly reeled-in kind of clean — and so well stocked we barely had to unpack. From makeup remover to farm-fresh eggs straight from the hosts’ own chickens, it felt the hosts had thought of everything before we knew we needed it.The ocean-inspired décor goes way beyond a few decorative fish. This place is a mini gallery of sculptural sea creatures — octopuses, fish, and more — from artists with some serious global flair. It’s creative, quirky, and full of personality — like staying in the guest house of an art-loving, well-traveled mermaid.Speaking of thoughtfulness, Liz and Lee were wonderful hosts. They were there when needed, never hovering, and always making sure things were going swimmingly. Their attention to detail and the care they put into the space stood out.The location is peaceful, with Mount Dora’s downtown charm just a short drive or walk away. Mornings were best spent sipping coffee on the porch, with birds visiting the feeder just outside the kitchen window and fresh eggs waiting in the fridge. In short, we'd drop anchor here again in a heartbeat — this place reeled us in.
