The site
The Forellenhof has a 5-hectare, park-like garden with several ponds, meadows, orchards, fire pits and old trees. In the summer you can enjoy the large swimming pool (30 x 8 m). The lawn in front of the holiday apartments is big enough for ball games, boules tournaments and picnics - at the same time if necessary.
The nearby Riesewohld is with seven square kilometers (700 ha) the largest forest in Dithmarschen, which - typical for a peasant forest - forms a mosaic-like structure of different forest types and forest uses due to the severely fragmented property. Neither sovereigns, landlords, nor the church ever had the say here. There was never a uniform management of the forest, which from today's perspective has received a heterogeneous landscape worth protecting.
New, large-scale acquisitions by the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation ensure the continued existence of this unique, primeval forest-like natural landscape.
