This Cottage is elaborated and well equipped in a beautiful surrounding. We had a great stay and with the privateness we felt much more comfortable than in a big resort. With the position in Haiku you could reach everything within a short drive. Beautiful beaches are nearby... close to Paia. We also loved to look at the turtles at the Hookipa Bay. Barbara and Hank are very kind owners. Everything was perfect!!

Was für ein hinreißender Ort!

Was für ein hinreißender Ort! Wir waren im Februar/März dieses Jahres (2014) für fast 3 Wochen dort und haben uns pudelwohl gefühlt. Das Haus ist hell, geräumig und nicht nur geschmackvoll, sondern auch liebevoll eingerichtet – man merkt, dass es der Gastgeberin Freude bereitet. Eingebettet in Haikus grüne Tropenlandschaft, fühlt man sich gleich zu Hause, so dass man gern einfach nur da sein und die schön angelegten Pflanzen und Blumen genießen mag, den Vögeln lauschen und die Nase in Mauis erfrischende trade winds halten. Entsprechend entspannt hielten wir es dann auch mit den vielen möglichen Ausflügen, um diese herrliche Insel zu erkunden. Der schöne Ort liegt wunderbar ruhig, doch sind es nur 1.5 Meilen bis Haiku Plaza, wo man alles kaufen kann, was man benötigt (super Café-Restaurant dort), weitere 3 Meilen zum Ho'okipa Beach mit seinen verwegenen Surfern (toll, denen zuzusehen), und nur noch 2 weitere Meilen bis Pa'ia, wo man alles kaufen kann, was man gerne haben möchte (super Mana Foods, super Cafés/kleine Restaurants, super (window)shopping – und dann ist Baldwin Beach auch noch gleich um die Ecke. Sagten wir schon, dass die Strände auf Maui so gar nicht überlaufen sind? Barbara und Hank sind charmante und diskrete Gastgeber und immer bereit, ggf. Auskunft zu geben. Haben wir schon die großen Orangen erwähnt, die wir uns nach Herzenslust (auch Limonen) nehmen und genießen sollten? Eine Orange = ein Glas Orangensaft, so süß wie Nektar (die kleinen Orangen, die wir hier zu Hause wieder kaufen können, werden nun ziemlich scheel angesehen, arme Dinger). Wenn die Nacht recht kühl gewesen ist, ist ein heißes Bad draußen auf der Lanai/Veranda vor dem Frühstück ein herrlicher Luxus! Und die Geckos scheinen die Gesellschaft ebenfalls zu mögen. Ein Wort zur Beleuchtung: Das gut angeordnete Licht trägt wesentlich zur schönen Wohnatmosphäre bei, und es ist ausreichend, um sich an verschiedenen gemütlichen Plätzen niederzulassen und zu lesen – was im Allgemeinen nicht die Regel ist und daher besondere Erwähnung verdient. Maui oasis!!

We could not be happier with our stay, and although there is much to do and see in Maui, we found ourselves looking forward to making it back to this serene cottage. Appointed with everything we needed and a spectacular lanai to catch some rays, cool off in the outdoor shower, and enjoy a grilled meal to the song of birds, was a dream! Hank was a great host and very helpful and responsive. The property was well located, and the rest of the island was easy to get to. Would highly recommend a stay here as Maui is busy, but this secluded hideaway makes you feel like you are the only ones on the island!! We will definitely try to get back soon!! Thanks for the wonderful stay!!

Absolutely Perfect!!!

Hank's cottage was a perfect spot. We nicknamed it our treehouse as there were sliding screen doors on three sides that let you appreciate and enjoy the landscaping around the cottage which was provided natural beauty and privacy. Hank thought of everything and the cottage was very well provisioned and very clean. What was hinted in a few of the reviews but not fully understood until we explored the area is that there are two towns within 5 minutes of the house which provide some funky, far less touristy options and a grocery store so going into down doesn't need to be heading back to Piai. We liked Colleen's, The Public House and Casanova for dinners and met a lot of nice people.

Quiet and beautiful - enjoyable stay

We had a wonderful stay at this peaceful and beautiful house. The entire process was smooth, and the house is well furnished. We’ve come to really enjoy the Haiku area It’s rural enough for quiet but within 15 minutes to Kahului and several small towns, and quite handy for day trips to Hana or Haleakalā. If you want an escape from the tourist areas of Maui, this is a wonderful option.

A Piece of Heaven

We both felt so comfortable and at home in this lovely open concept accommodation. The owner and manager were very helpful. They both offered hand picked oranges, tangerines, bananas and lemons that grew on the property. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed with everything one could need. We will definitely be back.

Wow!!

We absolutely LOVED staying here. When we arrived our breath was taken away - not only from the sunset view, but from the cleanliness and attention to detail taken for the cottage. Everything was beautiful - from the fresh fruit and snacks greeting us on arrival, to the immaculate furnishings and build of the cottage. The photos definitely don't to it justice. It was easily our favourite accommodation and location we stayed in. Hank, your host, is incredibly accommodating and quick to respond to our questions and messages. The grounds of the property are beautiful too - and make for a good stroll with a coffee in hand. We both wished we had more time at this wonderful cottage, and loved the location in Haiku - close to upcountry and close to the beach. We will be back! Thanks Hank!

Hawaii Anniversary Trip

This house was one of my best finds on VRBO since and I have been using the services (along with other timeshares I have used before VRBO). If you want a quiet out away place away from the giant resorts this is your place. Oh, and I did I say you are within an hour of anywhere from this place. 10 to 15 min.to the Twin Falls on the Hana hwy and 10 to 15 min from Paia. Around 30 min to the airport. Loved this place and yes does have a view of the shore. The stars at night and the soaker tub were great. Hope to come back this place soon. The host was really nice and ask to try his homegrown short bananas the best I have had.

Absolute serenity

Beyond perfect. Did I enjoy falling asleep to the lovely sounds outside our cottage or waking to those same sounds in the morning. We slept like rocks. The king size bed was delicious. Had breakfast on the deck with our friendly little gecko every morning. Hanks cottage is everything and more. The view is spectacular as is the lush foliage beautifully maintained. Perfectly located. Great restaurants nearby. Our intention was to feel like we were living in Hawaii. Mission accomplished Can’t wait to return.

Rekindling the flame

My husband and I stayed at the cottage during our (much needed ) getaway from the kids. The host has thought through every detail of a couples trip. We had fresh flowers throughout the house, a welcome basket of fruit and healthy snacks, detailed directions to local restaurants and beaches. The outdoor soaking tub was a nightly ritual that allowed us to watch shooting stars. The open panoramic sliding doors and vaulted ceilings made it feel as if we were sleeping in the open air. The breeze was filled with the aroma of the tropical gardens all around. The location was also perfect . You could drive into the nearby towns and explore or across the island to west Maui in an hour. Then at the end of the day, retreat to a private paradise.

Beautiful and Comfortable!

The cottage was an ideal home for us while on Maui. It was clean and had everything we needed with great views and beautiful landscaping. Hank is a great host who is not intrusive but eager to make sure everything is going well with the stay. The location was very convenient for getting everywhere we wanted to go and was close to excellent restaurants. Everything about it was beyond expectations and made for a wonderful visit to Maui.

One of our favorite share rentals in the world.

This is our second time at what we call Hank's Place (or Hank's Hawaiian Hideaway, sometimes). It is tied with one other place (in Spain) as our favorite share rental in the world. Hank is a wonderful and reliable host -- there when you need him; not there when you don't. Best of all, it is a FRAGRANCE-FREE RENTAL!!! (Not counting the soaps and shampoos that are provided; but the bedding is, the most important part; and also, no annoying potpourri.). Although you are on the "rainy side" of the island, that is no problem for us. The trade-off is that you are in paradise, surrounded by beautiful nature in every direction, and complete privacy. I could not recommend this place higher. We hope to come back every single year.

Beautiful getaway

This is our second time at Hanks. It was as beautiful as the first time. Hank is such a wonderful guy who would bring me lettuce and lemons from his yard. Love the privacy of the place and Haiku is such a great time. Close to beaches , Paia Ana Makawao.

I live in Haiku on Magical Maui. I'm on the verdant, lush, gorgeous North Shore...not in the crowded tourist areas. I've lived in the islands over 40 years and 25 of them on Maui. I love Haiku because it feels like country, yet we are only 5-10 minutes away to great restaurants, art gallerias and boutique shopping. All properties around are a minimum of 2 acres so there is seclusion and privacy. I love to garden and enjoy all of the tropical plants that have been planted and lovingly cared for. Guests enjoy the exotic, tropical plantings with vibrant flowers everywhere. Some call it a tropical oasis. There is also a huge organic veggie garden that I love to share with guests, along with all kinds of citrus fruits and bananas. Guests come from all over the world and enjoy the relaxing ambiance that the property provides. I look forward to meeting you sometime too.

Hookipa Bayview Cottage is located on one of Maui's best pieces of real estate. The view is unbelievably, spectacular. You see west Maui mountains, ocean, coastline and sometimes Molokai.
And of course, Hookipa Bay, world famous windsurfing beach.
Another unique part of the view is that you see no other houses on Maui. It is truly a very special, unique setting.
