We arrived at Great Moose Lake after a long drive and were eager to see where we’d be vacationing for the next two weeks. We were a little nervous as the photos we’d seen were good, but we still had some questions – was it an easy place to relax in, did it have everything we wanted so we could have fun, was the lake really beautiful and interesting. Within 5 minutes our questions were answered with a resounding YES!
In no time we were sitting on the deck, enjoying a cool drink, and taking in the beautiful view of the lake.
This is a truly wonderful place to have a great lake vacation. The cabin layout was really clever – two good-sized bedrooms, a great bathroom, a compact but well-equipped kitchen and good spaces for playing games, reading, watching movies, relaxing on the decks (front and back) and all within steps of the lake.
We swam, kayaked and paddle-boarded every day. The water was crystal clear and refreshing. We saw fish in the shallows and many loons swam by, quite close to the jetty.
There is a fire pit with Adirondack chairs and a view of the lake where we spent many nights making s’mores and watching the magnificent sunsets.
We brought our dog with us (a big Bernese Mountain Dog) and he had a great time too.
The main bedroom looks straight out to the lake and the morning views were wonderful to wake up to (although with sunrise at 4:40am the early dawn light was a little surprising at first, but we got used to it!).
We had our two teenaged daughters with us so we had to sprinkle some “activity” days into our two weeks but that was fun too. We took day trips to Bangor, Damariscotta, Belfast, Fort Knox, and a few other places. They are not super close, but we found our excursions worth our time.
Our hosts were great – they gave us all the information we needed and were not intrusive at all. We accidentally left a few important personal times behind when we left but they sent them on to us very quickly.
This is a cabin we want to return to. As soon as the opportunity arises, we will.
