The first thing I will say is this home is perfect if you don't want to drive much during your stay in Highlands. It is just a couple minutes drive from downtown and no curvy roads.
The house was beautiful and comfortable and was perfect for our stay.
The main issue we had was checking in. I never received any check-in information and just figured when the time got closer, it would be added. Two hours before our arrival, there was still no check-in information, so I did message the host to ask about it and did not received a response.
We arrived at around 5pm that evening (check-in time is 3pm so the host had PLENTY of time) and we still did not have any check-in information. We unexpectedly had no cell service at all at the house (and really anywhere in Highlands) so I could not get VRBO to load to try to get contact info for the host. We drove down the road a ways until we got some service, found the phone number for the host, and called. There was no answer, so I left a voicemail. I then began to call VRBO to see if they could assist. While waiting for VRBO to answer, I decided to call the host again from wife's phone. No answer. At this point, I am angry and immediately called the host again. He sent a text saying that he was unable to answer, so we responded saying that we were trying to get into the home we rented from him and had no check-in instructions. He then sent a text and a VRBO message with that information and a very short and simple "Sorry for the inconvenience."
Well, to me he didn't seem very sorry at all and seemed to not care that we finally got into the home 3-4 hours after the 3pm check-in time.
There are a couple of things I want to mention. One, there is a Nest smart thermostat and the note in the home says to leave the AC around 77 during the summer. To me, and most people I think, that is just plain hot. I turned it down while we were there constantly, but it seemed to eventually revert back to the schedule it runs. I turned it down to around 70 at night. Yes, I disregarded the note from the host, but there is no way I can sleep comfortably with it so warm. Two, there are SO many light switches and they are not labelled. You will spend some time trying to figure out what turns on what. ALSO, and this is the bigger deal to me, the switches for the lights and fan in the bedroom are in the closet on a very hard to reach wall. It took me a while to find them to turn the fan on.
