First of all, the property is gorgeous and as advertised. The area was nice, the house was very clean and nicely organized, Wifi was excellent and the lake view was awesome. You're about 15 minutes from town in either direction, which is perfect, and there are several restaurant choices that were good. In the house, there's a nice open feel and there are multiple cozy locations with fireplaces, etc. The kids also loved the bedrooms, particularly the bunk rooms. A couple suggestions or cautions that could really improve the experience in the future:
Communication with the Owner: No outreach after booking, it was an automatic acceptance, and I had to ping him to get access to keys for the house. First and only time we spoke. I gave it a pass, but when we arrived there was a very large scale power outage and the house and surrounding area was obviously pitch black. When I called him I was declined and when I texted if he had flashlights or candles anywhere I never heard back. There also aren't very clear instructions on how to operate TVs, fireplaces, etc. and all the DVD remotes in the house were missing. No checkout procedures shared, etc. These are easy fixes with a one pager and some care applied to in between booking protocols.
Access to property and lake: Although the instructions say 4 can park in driveway, you won't get more than two cars in unless the 3rd car parks parallel and blocks in the first two....or you park in a very steep driveway that descends to the lake (in which case I'd suggest blocks under tires). There is no street parking. Accessing the lake is a bit treacherous as you're going down a steep rugged lawn (no stairs or walkway) and we had a couple slip and falls due to wet conditions, leaves, etc. No harm done, we had 3 cars and soft landings, but maybe a long term opportunity for improvement.
Stocking the house: One wine glass, a pool table with one stick and no chalk, no condiments of any kind or any starter supplies (like toilet paper), limited baking plans and plates, etc. This shouldn't disqualify the house, but it is something you want to be prepared for and bring with you, particularly if you're filling house to capacity.
All of this said, the availability of the boat, canoe, kayak, paddleboard, along with the entire house having a really good layout and a nice hunting lodge feel really made it worth it. We'd go again.
