I have never commented on a property that I've stayed in, but in this case I felt I had an obligation to my fellow travelers. Please do not be deceived by the posted reviews and pictures...this listing is not what it seems. I will agree that the property that the house sits on is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, that is the only positive statement that can be made about this listing.
The dirty cushions on moldy lawn furniture, the broken storm door at the entrance to the house and the musty, smelly unusable lower level, set the standard for the rest of the house.
This house has been neglected for years. Except for a refrigerator and range that have been purchased in the last 10+ years, the rest of the house is decades old.
The kitchen is poorly cleaned and poorly stocked, the bed linens are old and frayed, the living room furniture is uncomfortable, and the lighting throughout the house is horrible. To make matters worse, in an attempt to portray the house as an Adirondack cabin, the house is "decorated" with "stuff", covering pretty much every corner and flat surface. Not only is this a nuisance for a guest trying to get comfortable, in many instances the "decorations" create hazardous conditions (especially for young children).
A traveler may be able to overlook some or all of these inadequacies, but having done my share of traveling, the one thing that I don't think any traveler can accept is a gross bathroom. The main bathroom is 1960-1970 vintage, with damaged wallboard surrounding the tub, moldy and encrusted tub caulking, crusty bathtubs knobs, and poorly cleaned. To me this was the final straw!
Initially, there was pushback from the owner upon hearing my grievances about his property. However, after being presented with picture proof, he admitted that he didn't get up there often, stated that he would have some of the issues "corrected", and also agreed to refund me one nights stay.
It is a shame that an owner is so quick to take the hard earned vacation dollars from their quests, with little to no concern for their comfort.
