We only stayed one night of the three nights that we had booked and paid for. We arrived after 6pm to find a house with broken and torn blinds/curtains, filthy stove top, caked dirt around the shower, someone's old soap in the shower, visible dirt on the carpet (which I vacuumed after cleaning out the very dirty vacuum cleaner), moldy food/grease in the bbq cabinet outside (it’s bear country and there should never be anything edible outside for them to smell), missing window screens, and windows that would not open. And this was just the downstairs. We didn't venture upstairs so I can't comment on that area of the house. Neither one of us would walk on the carpet without shoes on, it was that bad.
In the Covid-19 world that we are currently living in cleanliness is even more important than ever. We rented the cabin based on the reviews and knowing that it was old and rustic. That’s fine, we’ve stayed at plenty of old and rustic places before. But not old and rustic and dirty and broken, that’s a different story. I messaged the owner the next day letting him know all of these things and that we weren’t comfortable staying any longer. No response. I messaged him again 4 days later because I wanted to give him plenty of time to respond before writing a bad review. No response. I know he’s out there because I asked him a question a week before we went and he responded within an hour.
We’ve never left a vacation rental after one night and I’ve never written a bad review in the 25 years that we’ve been renting vacation houses. If the owner had responded with a reasonable explanation I wouldn’t be writing this review, but it’s been 3 weeks now and I’ve heard nothing from him.
