The wife and I decided kind of last minute to get one last beach trip in this year. Our experience was a mixed bag. We were told would could not get in the house early(4PM check in)because of the need for extra cleaning due to Covid. So we had to waste like 2 hours waiting to get in. When we finally were allowed in we found the carpets had not even been vacuumed(I went ahead and vacuumed the areas we would be using), trash cans in master bedroom and bathroom had not been emptied, carpets had stains all over the place. The screened in porch had cobwebs everywhere, the tables looked like they had not been wiped in months, the cushions for the furniture had not been cleaned in quite awhile. Windows were very dirty with many, many cobwebs in them(science experiment)!!. Kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets were stained. Not sure where the extra Covid cleaning was?? The house has three bedrooms and two full baths so it sleeps probably 6-8 people, yet the biggest frying pan was like a 6 inch frying pan....how could you possibly cook for that many with one little frying pan. We could barely cook for two!! The propane tank for the grill was empty. Other things that were not that big of a deal, but should be addressed.....master bathroom sink has a slow drip leak, the microwave oven over-counter light is out. Again is was astonishing to be told we could not check in until 4PM because of extra cleaning. As for the neighborhood it did not seem like most people took a lot of pride in their properties. Lawns were mostly weeds, neighbor next to the house had "Beware of Dog" signs up along with "No Trespassing" signs so not exactly welcome to the neighborhood type feeling. For the positives(sort of)...Oak Island is a great beach and the location of the house was pretty good although I do think Oak Island should have pedestrian crossings on the main road as the street is very busy and it is like 0.7 miles to the beach so pretty much had to drive to the beach( no way to directly cross street due to traffic so usually had to take a right and immediate left to get to the beach), but there was adequate parking. Grocery stores and restaurants were convenient. Beach was beautiful with many friendly people. Overall we enjoyed Oak Island as this was our first trip there, but the house left a lot to be desired.
