This house is so cute & clean w/ nice furniture/decorations. We LOVED it! The owners are awesome & responsive. The living room is set up perfectly with a day bed, smart TV, game table, desk & sitting area. The dining room has a large table which is great for meals and playing games. Being that this is a 100+ year old lake cottage, the bedrooms are small. Two of the bedrooms have dressers, double beds, and closets with one of the bedrooms having a dressing table with a mirror for additional storage. The third bedroom has a futon for sleeping or sitting/relaxing. The kitchen is stocked with everything you will need, including a garbage disposal, dishwasher, dishes, pots/pans, seasonings, dish towels, etc. The basement has a washer/dryer, which was super convenient for washing suits and beach towels after beach days. The backyard is large with a fire pit. The front porch was a nice place to relax.
This was our first trip to Muskegon, MI & we will return. It's not overly touristy, so it's perfect for relaxing; nothing was crowded, including beaches during 4th of July weekend (there were a lot of people, but there was a lot of space for our group). Much to do within a quarter mile of the house. Nearby, we went to the USS Submarine Museum where we walked the indoor/outdoor exhibits, along with tours of a WWII submarine & a US Coast Guard ship. We also went up a lighthouse just past the US Coast Guard area. You can also drive into town for local museums, including an art museum, a museum on Michigan history great for families with hands-on exhibits great for kids, and house tours.
There is a large park with picnic tables and a playground directly across the street. Just past the park is the beach. We walked to the beach - it was super close.
There are two areas of the beach -- the closer area is where boats can dock in the water - the water is warmer, the waves are less, the sand has more sticks/shells, there is an outhouse for bathroom needs, and there are fewer people. The second beach area is vast with beautiful sand and waves. That area has a snack shack, beach shower, and bathrooms. We spent time at both beaches. Both beach areas are very close to a great restaurant, The Deck.
The house is down the street from the canal that connects Lake Michigan & Lake Muskegon. Walking distance from the house is another beach on Lake Muskegon. The canal is great for watching boats.
Love this house; location is perfect! Can't wait to return!
