The setting of La Carredonne is nothing short of stunning. Picturesque, tranquil and heavenly!
The owners - Veronique and Philippe are charming attentive but not intrusive hosts. We were privileged to be told their “Grand Design” story (from ruin to a dream home). I found them inspirational and great conversationalists. Pre-arrival communication was very effective. On all occasions I got prompt helpful respond and excellent advice on our stay.
Accommodation is clean, comfortable and well maintained. The patio on one side and terrace overlooking the pool on another were excellent places to enjoy a glass (or two or three …) of wine. The pool area provides an idyllic place to sit and read or to have a dip in the cooling waters while gazing up at the mountains.
The location of the gite is a dream - quiet, great views and a fabulous infinity pool. You can walk, run or cycle for miles straight from the property (traffic free!). A lovely village of Fontaine de Vaucluse is 10 min walk down a steep hill. The village’s Sorgue river has plenty to offer, whether you prefer a slow-paced stroll, or you're more inclined towards action and adventure. There are plenty of enjoyable scenic restaurants and cultural landmarks along the river that deserve to be on your 'to-do' list: a mysterious spring, remains of the fourteenth century castle, the Petrarch Museum Library, the “Vallis Clausa” Paper Mill etc. In their own simple ways they all have stories to tell. You can take a canoe/kayak down the Sorgue river or go for a hike/walk (free hiking trail maps are available at the Fontaine de Vaucluse Tourist Office).
A charming town of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue known as the capital of antiques, with many shops and galleries, and a large Provencal market every Sunday, is 15 min drive away.
We loved fascinating "perched" hill-top villages (Gordes, Bonnieux, Menerbes etc), spectacular vineyards and orchards of Luberon (all within 30-45 min drive).
We visited and loved the Abbaye Notre Dame de Sénanque, Pont du Gard, Salon-de-Provence, Avignon (all famous sites + the light show at the Palais des Papes), Marseille and my most favourite Aix-en-Provence.
Merci beaucoup, Véronique and Philippe, for sharing your dream place, yummy olive oil, fig jam and red wine (of course!) with us. We absolutely loved this place. We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.
