Disappointing
Good news first: the swimming pool and its surrounds are very acceptable.
Now the bad news: for the price we paid for two weeks, the downstairs apartment (this is not, in essence, a family home but two distinct and separate apartments) is unacceptable.
It is dark, uncomfortable and extremely basic: a two star space at a four star price. The kitchen best reflects the true nature of this rental with its floor space measuring 2.5 metres by 2.1 metres – so small it is not possible to open the dishwasher when the kitchen door is ajar.
There is no extractor fan – smoke alarm (in the hall) going off constantly – and the large gas boiler placed directly over the sink requires a contortionist’s approach to cleaning pots and pans. In reality, this is a kitchen more akin to a student’s garret in Paris than a comfortable family home of substance.
Toilet and separate shower room equally unimpressive. Bedrooms lacking any sense of style, warmth and quality.
Our hearts sank when we first entered the apartment. We stuck it out for our two weeks because we couldn’t find anything else suitable at such short notice.
If we had paid a far less amount, perhaps we would not have felt so disappointed; but given the very substantial sum of money involved, one has certain expectations; they were simply not met.
Nice pool though – and a lovely area of France.
Finally: first time ever in 25 years of home exchanges and rentals around the world, that I have had to buy a brush for cleaning the pots.
