Bear Cabin at Wilderness Wind bietet eine schöne Erholung für einen romantischen Kurzurlaub oder einen schönen Ort für einen Familienurlaub in der Natur. Bear Cabin ist eine historische Blockhütte im Landhausstil mit zwei Schlafzimmern, einer Küche, einem Essbereich, einer geschlossenen Veranda, die nach Westen in Richtung See ausgerichtet ist, um den Sonnenuntergang zu beobachten. Die Küche hat kaltes Wasser, einen Kühlschrank, einen Herd, eine Mikrowelle und eine Kaffeemaschine. Das nahe gelegene Badehaus hat heiße Duschen, Toilettenwaschbecken und Toiletten. Nutzen Sie die Kanus und Kajaks vor Ort, um den schönen Lake Armstrong zu paddeln. Der Kiesstrand bietet Schwimmen mit Blick auf den See Sitzplätze für Familientreffen. Nach dem Sonnenuntergang über dem See können Sie sich an der Feuerstelle am Seeufer zu einem Lagerfeuer versammeln.
Tagesausflüge zu nahe gelegenen Boundary Waters, Wandern oder Radfahren auf dem Mesabi-Trail, alle Annehmlichkeiten des Shoppen und Sightseeing in und um Ely in der Nähe können mit dieser Hütte als Basis genossen werden.
Diese Hütte gehört und wird von Chicago Voyagers betrieben, um ihre Ziele zu unterstützen, Outdoor-Programme wie Radfahren, Wandern, Klettern, Langlaufen und Paddeln für Jugendliche anzubieten, die ansonsten keinen Zugang zu solchen Aktivitäten hätten. Jugendliche in der Natur zu bekommen ist wichtig, aber die Programme sind auch darauf ausgerichtet, Selbstvertrauen aufzubauen und gezielt Führungs- und Teamfähigkeit zu lehren. Weekend Getaway

We enjoyed the Bear Cabin! A few windows don’t open which was a bummer but we brought extra fans from home as the cabin doesn’t have A/C and it was about 90 degrees. We enjoyed all the amenities, bathrooms are clean and very close! The commons area is great for any items you may have forgotten! We will definitely go back!

Got Away

….and that’s exactly what we did! Our stay was better than hoped in celebrating my birthday. My fiance took me to a place he described as majestic and that it is. We could have stayed in town but the true experience of Ely was here. The sunrise and sunset out our window was magnificent! Living of the needs in life made it that more memorable. We will definitely be heading North again!

Cozy cabin stay

Felt very welcome and at home right away. Jay was awesome. Lots of inside info. And so cool that the resort helps support the Chicago Voyaguers. Loved being so close to the lake with the evening sun and Jay even set a fire for us by the lake to roast s’mores. Such a wonderful overall up north experience. Even went for a brief swim. Learned a lot about the fish in the lake as well and local fishing lakes.

Communication about the property expectations was more modern than the very rustic cabin and bathhouse. The old fashioned outhouse was not what I expected. The lack of technology was fine. For over two hundred a night I expected clean sheets and a little more fit and finish. The advertising is outstanding and I really support the cause but was disappointed when the cabin was over 85 degrees and only two or three windows opened

Perfect spot to relax and unwind!

I spent three relaxing nights here and it was truly the perfect spot. The cabin was adorable, the lake was beautiful, and the camp host was delightful and so helpful. It was fun to chat with the other campers and also enjoy some quiet reading time. Highly recommend.

Off the grid

It was just the balance of “off the grid” getaway, scenic beauty and local flavor we were looking for in a short getaway to northern Minnesota. The host/manager made sure we had anything we needed and the wild call of the loons on the lake at 3:00 am made the trip perfect.

Quintessential MN cabin experience

Absolutely loved staying at bear cabin in Wildnerness Wind! Blew away all my expectations. Jay is the perfect host - made us Kiwis feel super welcome, showed us around, told great stories, couldn’t do enough to help campers make the most of their time there. The cabin was ideal, the lake was gorgeous, and the camp was just the right size to have a natter around the fire pit of an evening but feel alone with your family when you wanted. Cozy classic cabin stay

My wife and I enjoyed our early autumn stay at this 1920s resort cabin 10 miles from Ely. Took advantage of the small but full kitchen. Lovely lakeside setting. Watching the sun set over the lake while sitting next to a campfire was a joy. Jay, the manager, was very kind and helpful. We would happily return.

Wilderness Wind is owned and operated by Chicago Voyagers, a nonprofit that provides outdoor active experiences to urban youth that would not otherwise have access to such opportunities. Youth participate in biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, and river and lake canoe paddling trips. Included are trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness that include wilderness canoeing, portaging, outdoor meal preparation, camping, navigation, and appreciation of the unique habitats of the BWCAW. Kids develop self confidence and are specifically taught leadership and teamwork skills. Your stay at our beautiful cabin helps support these programs for Chicago Voyagers kids! Thanks!

Staying at our rustic cabins offers guests a chance to experience the same flora and fauna of the Boundary Waters that the youth participants experience but with the comfort of comfortable beds, kitchens, and nearby hot showers and toilets in the bath house. Guests can paddle canoes on the lake and enjoy a campfire, hear the call of loons, enjoy sunsets over the water, and in doing so, feel a little closer to our natural world.

One of the greatest things about Wilderness Wind is the peace and quiet of the local environment. People come to Wilderness Wind to get away from the noise of the city and to be close to nature.

From a recently published book by our neighbor to the north of us, David Okerlund:

“What makes our refuge so special is its solitude. At night the sky is crystal clear, and the only sounds you may hear is the crackle of your fire, an occasional forlorn call from a loon to its mate, and an even more entrancing high pitched wail of a grey wolf. Each sound we consider to be a priceless experience”.

We agree completely with David and others who have worked hard to build a quiet community here on Lake Armstrong. We would like everyone who visits us to experience this slice of solitude too.

Therefore, we ask that you do your part to keep Wilderness Wind quiet. Don’t bring your jetski or your bass boat with 300 hp engine. A small engine on your fishing boat is of course fine. Kids should make noise (or they wouldn’t be kids!) so we’re not trying to stifle fun but we do want everyone to respect the quiet that emerges at the end of every day for all to enjoy.
