Just 25 minutes from Sion, and 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva, sits the attractive, traditional village of Veysonnaz. Together with Verbier, Nendaz and Thyon, Veysonnaz makes up the 4 Valleys, which is an impressive 412km piste and 80km off-piste ski area.
Being just 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva airport, Veysonnaz is perfect for weekend visits or fortnight breaks, and SkiSwissonline can provide you with the perfect chalet apartment.
The charming village of Veysonnaz isn't just about skiing though, Veysonnaz also offers a wide selection of other things to do, especially during the summer months, such as golfing, horse riding, mountain biking and hiking. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you can also take to the skies and take in the breathtaking Veysonnaz scenery via a bit of paragliding. Whatever the time of year, Veysonnaz makes for an unforgettable vacation.
As soon as the snow comes, Veysonnaz becomes a winter sports paradise. World Cup races take place on the Piste de L'Ours above Veysonnaz. The huge Four Valleys skiing area stretches from Veysonnaz and the adjacent Les Collons / Thyon 2000, taking in Nendaz and Mont Fort (3330m), and extending as far as Verbier and La Tzoumaz. Opening up no fewer than 410km of slopes and 95 lifts for skiers of all abilities.
Naturally, there are winter sports schools for children and adults, as well as lots of alternative winter activities for non-skiers such as snowshoeing, tobogganing to snow tubing. The ski school in Veysonnaz is great for learners of all ages, and the Swiss Snow Kids Village is a fantastic place for your little ones to learn. For freestyle antics the 1936 Neypark in La Choux is one of the best snow parks in the area, and renowned for its skate-style pyramid.
There are also approximately 300km of footpaths in the area around Veysonnaz, and there are also opportunities for more challenging tours in the high mountains. The walks take you through un-spoilt nature: in Veysonnaz, the flora and fauna and grazed pastureland are all protected. The traditional open irrigation channel typical of the Valais area, dating from the 15th century, has been extensively restored for 12km of its length and now the water is flowing again. These give some idea of the concerns local people had about water, and nowadays provide pleasant walks with no great differences in altitude, but mostly with fantastic views.
For families with children aged between 4 and 8, in the peak summer season there is a children's entertainment program provided every day.
Older children can meet up in The Sun + Fun Club; where they can enjoy activities such as beach volley, football, tennis, wall climbing, beach parties, archery, mountain bike tours, cable car tours and guided walks.
Situated on the slopes above Sion, Veysonnaz is a mountain village typical of the Valais canton. To the west of Veysonnaz, lies the French-speaking district of Martigny.
Veysonnaz isn't the biggest resort in the 4 Vallées, but it is one of the most attractive.
Unlike Verbier, with its boisterous nightlife, Veysonnaz is great for a quiet winter sports vacation. The village has successfully retained its traditional character while developing excellent summer and winter vacation facilities.
Taking the train from Geneva airport is easy. Sion is aprox 1 hr and 45 min. by train. Then taxi up the 13 km to Veysonnaz.
