The Neighborhood:
Nestled between Brook Green, Hammersmith, Fulham and Shepherd's Bush, the largely residential neighbourhood of West Kensington, which includes Barons Court, consists mainly of Victorian terraced houses and boasts some impressive mansion blocks. The area is quite ethnically diverse, especially along the vibrant North End Road, fabled for its fruit and vegetable market. Landmarks include the Olympia Exhibition Centre, the Queen's Club (which hosts an annual grass court tennis tournament in the lead up to Wimbledon) and the intimate Barons Court Theatre, located in the basement of the Curtains Up pub. The band Queen once shared a flat in West Kensington, while Gandhi lived here for a year while a student. The Famous Three Kings pub, now a sports viewing Mecca for a largely antipodean crowd, was the venue of Joy Division's last London gig.
Being largely residential and densely populated, West Kensington is a great fit for those seeking a bit of peace while close to all the action, as the vibrant centres of High Street Kensington and Earls Court are just a walk away, but by living here you’re guaranteed a slightly more tranquil existence than you might find in more well-known parts of South West London.
Getting Around:
Your Nearest Stations:
- Barons Court (9 min walk)

West Kensington is very well served when it comes to public transport, particularly if you’re commuting around West London or into Central London. West Kensington station is on the District Line, while nearby Earls Court and Barons Court have access to both the District Line and the Piccadilly Line. As a result, Piccadilly Circus is just an 11 minute journey away, and Knightsbridge a mere 5 minutes.
Meanwhile for an easy journey to North, South and East London, the Overground operates from Kensington Olympia, and will take you to Clapham Junction in 17 minutes. There are also lots of buses in the area, going everywhere from Kings Cross to Heathrow Airport.
