Town: Windley is a lovely little rural hamlet in the heart of Derbyshire, set in the southern part of the Peak District National Park. Located just off the Belper to Ashbourne road, the hamlet has a scattering of houses and is surrounded by some beautiful countryside. The nearby village of Turnditch offers two good pubs and further on is Hulland Ward which has a petrol station, shop and Post Office. For more choice, visit Belper, situated in the Derwent Valley, and is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th Century, when it was called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds true today. Now a spirited and bustling town, attractions include the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens There are many walks up and down the valley, as well as cycling and watersports at nearby Carsington Water. The pretty traditional market towns of Ashbourne and Bakewell are close by, and the beautiful Chatsworth House, Shottle Hall and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car, the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Within easy reach is the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford, which is not to be missed. A great location for a wonderful holiday.
