The host never contact me to give instructions for check in. I left them messages via Vrbo platform (that is the only way the customer can reach the host), but they never answered me there.
I reached out to expedia customer service for help and the host company emailed me back only a day after the check in time asking if I still would like to check in or cancel the booking. They said they contacted me at the day of check in. Most likely they tried to call me on my phone, but never went through because it is an international call for them. Even if this is the case, I would never expect that a host would initiate contact via phone, for security reasons. That is why I use Expedia/Vrbo for booking and the host should make contact there first and I would receive email alerts for new messages.
I replied saying that I would like to cancel and requested a reimbursement. I never heard from them again.
I reached out to Vrbo to help me get the reimbursement for the charge via Expedia at the time of booking. They should have proof that I contacted the host but they did reply to me.
Live chatting with Vrbo was good and they said they would look into the matter. But I am waiting and waiting and waiting... Hopefully, some day Vrbo will reply to me with a solution (reimbursement would be fair, I’d say).
Bottom line, I lost a lot of money and a had my trip to Isola D’Elba, Italy, ruined. I will probably never use Vrbo for International trips again.
