For the cycling enthusiast you can access the Tissington Trail from Alsop, just a mile away. The trail is popular and free from traffic, running along a disused railway line through stunning countryside. Other access points include Parsley Hay, benefitting from a visitor centre and cycle hire, Hartington, Tissington, Thorpe and Ashbourne.

There is fresh water fishing within Dovedale and the wider Peak District, notable for rainbow trout, wild brown trout and grayling. Carsington reservoir is close by for sailing enthusiasts and trying out other water sports.

Mulberry Cottage is close to historic Peak District villages and towns. Hartington has pubs, cafes, delis, post office and The Hartington Cheese shop, selling their award winning local cheese. The historic town of Ashbourne has a plethora of independent shops, including boutique clothes shops and antique emporiums, as well as highly-rated restaurants and cafes, from casual to fine-dining. The town has a range of supermarket choices, bakeries, delicatessens, greengrocers etc. Another well-known local historic town is that of Bakewell, home to the famous Bakewell pudding and tart. Chatsworth House is close to Bakewell, one of the most notable stately homes in England, with landscaped gardens by Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton. Chatsworth has recently been judged the most beautiful stately home in the world and is lived in by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Another must-see attraction is Haddon Hall, 900 years old and described by Simon Jenkins as ‘the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages’. The hall has been used in a range of high-profile productions such as Jayne Eyre, Mary Queen of Scots and Pride and Prejudice.
