Modern Open-plan House Near Bantham, Devon, With hot tub and Cat! Sleeps 8
This is a newly renovated house over two floors, with a large vaulted, open plan kitchen/diner/living room upstairs to take advantage of the view down the valley. Folding doors open onto the large south facing terrace garden with hot tub and gas BBQ.
The house comes with our delightful cat! So cat feeding would be necessary and we can't accept dogs.
There is a driveway with offroad parking for four cars. Then you can leave your car and walk to the beach as it is only a mile to the famous surfing beach of Bantham, in the beautiful South Hams “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” in South Devon.
There are four bedrooms that can sleep eight – there are two super-king beds, one king bed, and one double. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs, and two bedrooms and one large bathroom upstairs. Bed linen and towels are included.
The house is not really suitable for crawlers and toddlers as there are stairs with no stair gate.
Please message us to discuss the cat before booking!
The house is in a quiet village with a number of walks and access to the South West coastal path with wonderful views of the sea, beaches and countryside. The village of Bantham is less than a mile away, where you will find the popular Sloop Inn with fine lunchtime and evening meals, and a village shop with café overlooking the Avon river. Also nearby is Thurlestone village, which has the Village Inn and a village shop / post office. Both villages serve up a delicious cream tea!
Bantham has a large, unspoilt sandy beach with stunning views of Burgh Island, Bigbury on Sea and the coastline beyond. Summer or winter, it is perfect for walking, swimming, sandcastle building, rock pool exploring, surfing, body boarding, stand up paddle boarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing, fishing and other watersports, with a May to September RNLI lifeguard service for peace of mind. There is a pay on entry carpark and toilet facilities. Dogs are permitted on the beach year round, but May to September are restricted to the western end of the beach.
Further exploring along the coast will bring you to more secluded coves, smaller sandy beaches, and beyond to the pretty village of Hope Cove.
There are surf schools both at Bantham and Bigbury on Sea. There is also a golf course at Thurlestone and Bigbury on Sea.
The river Avon opening onto Bantham beach provides further walking, swimming and watersports opportunities, but please take care to find out about the tides. There is a seasonal ferry service at certain times across to Bigbury on Sea from where you can access Burgh Island by foot at low tide or by the unique sea tractor at high tide!
If you have your own boat or jetski you will find a public boat launch at nearby Hope Cove, Salcombe or Kingsbridge. Please pay a fee to the local harbour master.
The nearest town of Kingsbridge has two supermarkets, shopping facilities, a twice-monthly farmers market, doctor's surgery/minor injuries hospital, banks, cinema, a leisure centre with swimming pool, and a great choice of restaurants, cafes, pubs and takeaways. The beautiful Salcombe also with shopping and eating facilities, and popular with boat enthusiasts, is only 15 minutes away, as is Modbury, also worth a visit. Further afield Totnes and Dartmouth make an interesting day out with trips on the River Dart linking the two towns.
Other attractions in the area include the stunning coastline features of Start Point and Bolt Head, the Kingsbridge-Salcombe ferry, the rugged expanse of Dartmoor to the north, steam trains, Paignton zoo, Buckfastleigh abbey, theme parks, garden centres and National Trust properties. Plymouth’s shopping, night-life, aquarium and dry-ski slope are only 45 minutes away. Attractions in Cornwall like the Eden Project are do-able as a daytrip.
