Stunning - 2 mins Lake Windermere - 4 bedrooms (1 downstairs), 3 bathrooms
“Abstolutely stunning”, “beautifully fitted out and decorated”… “ all equipment of excellent quality”… “Great location”... “that extra special touch”…. Just some of our reviews. Bring friends & family to this privileged location.
Welcome to our Lake District holiday home. We love it and hope you will too. As you step in the door, we hope you will immediately start to relax. We have tried to think of everything - we love to spend our own holidays here with family and friends.
We are in the small hamlet of Lakeside, which is home to the steam boats, steam train and even an aquarium, along with the lovely 4 star Lakeside Hotel with restaurant and bar. All these are a stone’s throw from us. Lake Windermere is a 2 minute walk across the road.
Stroll 10-15 minutes (1 mile) alongside the lakeshore to our favourite local, the Swan Hotel & Spa, which has a fabulous outdoor seating area by the River Leven (Lake Windermere's outlet), a cosy pub and a restaurant, as well as a 5 star spa.
We have 4 fabulous bedrooms (sleeps 8 plus a baby) and 3 modern fully tiled spacious bathrooms (2 of which are ensuites), with power showers, motion sensor defrosting LED mirrors. 2 Super Kings, 1 King and 1 Twin room.
On the ground floor, we have a large entrance hall with digital piano - great for experts or novices. Double doors open from the hallway into our large dining kitchen, with a beautiful glass topped teak root table seating 8 (inspired by TV's Saturday Kitchen!). We have a fantastic, simple to use electric Aga with induction hob, large French fridge freezer with water dispenser and automatic ice maker, dishwasher, filter coffee machine, food mixer, kettle, toaster, microwave. Excellent, quality range of crockery, cutlery, pans, serving dishes etc makes it a pleasure to eat at home if you prefer during your holiday.
The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. We also have an outdoor retractable washing line.
Our living room has comfy sofas and chairs to seat 8 guests, coffee tables, a cosy wood burner for those chilly evenings, and a 55” Smart TV with NOW TV cinema subscription, perfect for movie nights.
The living room opens up into our favourite room - the garden room, which has double bi-folding doors with super views across the field, the West Windermere Way footpath, and Cartmel Fell in the distance. The garden room then opens onto our large patio, with dining furniture and Weber BBQ. Gorgeous walks from the door. The beautiful lake of Windermere is 2 minutes across the road (to avoid confusion, we have field, woodland & fell views but only a small glimpse of the lake).
We also have a downstairs cloakroom.
One of our four bedrooms is on the ground floor, with a King sized bed and an en-suite shower room. It is ideal for grandparents or guests who may struggle with the stairs.
As you walk upstairs from the hall, step onto our large galleried landing area on the first floor, leading off to the other 3 bedrooms and House bathroom.
Our Master Bedroom with Super King bed has an en suite shower room, and a lovely seating area overlooking open fields from our Juliette balcony.
We also have another lovely Super King bedroom and finally a Twin bedroom (with extra long single beds), both also upstairs. We have a house bathroom with rainfall shower over, which is shared between this 2nd Super King and the Twin bedrooms.
All our beds have new award winning Hypnos mattresses, a Smart TV, hairdryer and an Amazon Echo speaker (Alexa) which you can use for the radio or to listen to your own music eg use as a speaker from your own Spotify account. All the bathrooms have power rainfall showers, a non-touch motion sensor LED mirror with integral shaver socket and bluetooth, loo and wash hand basin. They also have dual fuel heated towel rails, which you can switch on independently from the central heating, so you can have toastie towels even in the summer!
The house bathroom has a bath, rainfall shower over, loo and wash hand basin.
We think we are in the perfect location and hope you will agree. We have spent many great holidays and short breaks in the area, with our family and friends.
For guests with electric or hybrid vehicles, we have an EV charger which is available to use at an extra charge. Please let me know in advance and we can arrange payment & unlocking.
Lakeside is a small hamlet, but packed with facilities. Across the road at the lake's edge is Lakeside quay, from where steam boats run all year except Christmas Day to Bowness and Ambleside. You can change at these to also sail to eg Far Sawrey and Brockhole. In the summer there is a delightful little ferry running the 5 minute trip across the bottom of the lake from Lakeside to lovely National Trust-owned Fell Foot Park, with its Victorian parkland adjoining the lake, children's playground, rowing boat & kayak hire (and the Park Run!), and lovely cafe. The water at Fell Foot is quite shallow and well used by families in the summer months.
Lakeside is also home to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite steam train. A traditional train which the family will love takes you to Newby Bridge then Haverthwaite. Runs several times daily Easter to October and some winter weekends in school holidays.
Or you could try the Lakeside Aquarium - a hit with children and a 2 minute walk from us across the road. Also just across the road is the lovely Lakeside Hotel with a restaurant, afternoon teas and a small bar area.
Beyond the Aquarium you will find a super multi user National Park footpath to the lovely Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge. The Swan is less than a mile along the path. The footpath is part of the West Windermere trail which runs along the bottom of the lake and the railway line. Paddle board hire and lessons available at the Swan, as well as a fabulous spa.
Step out from our drive, and a few metres takes you onto the West Windermere Way footpath which you can see from our house. This path takes you across the field, through the woods to the next hamlet of Finsthwaite. From here, you can walk up to the beautiful High & Low Dams, or along the country road to Backbarrow and Haverthwaite. Backbarrow is home to the Motor Museum and its lovely cafe. Backbarrow is also home to the Whitewater Hotel, where you can enjoy refreshments overlooking the white waters on the River Leven. Alternatively, you can do a circular walk through fields to Newby Bridge and back to Lakeside. Another option is to take the West Windermere Way path to Finsthwaite then right up the west side of the lake to Sawrey, catch the ferry & steamer home to Lakeside - a great day out!
There is so much to do from the door but if you want to explore a bit further afield, take the lovely scenic road from us north to Sawrey (home to Beatrix Potter's house, Hill Top) and the renowned Tower Bank Arms featured in her books and now owned & run as a super little pub by the National Trust.
A few minutes’ drive further takes you to wonderful Hawkshead and onto Ambleside/Tarn Hows etc.
There are several guide books and an information pack in the property, together with a couple of large maps on the walls to help you plan your days and reflect on your travels. We also have displayed many photographs and paintings of local beauty spots by local artists through the property.
If you are a foodie, you will know that we are blessed with Michelin stars in the area. Just 4 miles away is Heft Inn & Restaurant at High Newton, with 1 star. A couple of miles further take you to the picturesque village of Cartmel, which is home to L’enclume and the slightly more relaxed Rogan & Co - 4 stars between them, both owned and run by chef Simon Rogan. Cartmel is also home to the wonderful Unsworths Yard, with a micro brewery, a wine shop and a cheeserie. Really lovely little outdoor courtyard, you can buy from any of these and they do pizzas usually Thursday/Friday/Saturday evenings, and sometimes live music. A favourite of ours on a sunny afternoon. Many more great restaurants/pubs/cafes to choose from, a full info pack of our favourites for your perusal at the property.
From Cartmel (also home to the Races and its historical Priory), there is a lovely walk to Holker Hall which is open to the public.
You are welcome to bring up to 2 well behaved dogs. Downstairs is all oak flooring (the garden room is tiled), but we respectfully ask that your dog stays downstairs for the benefit of our furniture and all our guests. Additional fee of £25 per stay per dog.
We hope this gives you a flavour of Beech Lea and why we love it. If you are a regular to the South Lakes, the location will speak for itself.
If you have any questions please do ask.
