Description
A spectacular bungalow on the banks of the Meare, in the seaside village of Thorpeness. The interior is modern and designed to make the most of the view, with one large open plan room, incorporating kitchen, dining room and sitting areas, all looking out onto the stunning lake. Three sets of folding doors open out onto a warm south-facing deck that spans the width of the house. The garden is large and you can explore the 60-acre Meare on the rowing boat from our private jetty.
All-On-One Level Accommodation
FRONT DRIVE: From Lakeside Avenue there is a private semi-circle drive with plenty of room for at least 3 cars.
ENTRANCE: There is a covered porch over the front door. Inside there is in an entrance hall that opens straight into the stunning open plan living space. All four bedrooms, the bathroom and shower room are on the ground floor and are connected by the magnificent open plan living space.
SITTING/KITCHEN/DINING ROOM: An amazing open plan space with many great features. There are two sets of tri-folding patio doors and a center set of quad-folding doors that link the open plan space to the outside. The folding doors open onto a large decking area with a large lawned garden and the Meare beyond. The sitting spaces are divided by a two-sided fireplace with a wood burner. On one side of the wood burner is a three-seater sofa, a comfy armchair, a rocking chair and two bean bags for the children. On the chimney stack is a mounted 40-inch LED flat screen TV with FreeSat, which gives access to the main channels (BBC/ITV/C4), as well as to some internet-based channels (Netflix, BBC i-Player, ITV Player etc). On the other side of the wood burner is a two-seater sofa positioned to look out at the Meare, two small armchairs and wooden chair with a central coffee table – a perfect place for doing jigsaw puzzles or just looking out at the view. At the other side of the open plan room is the fully equipped kitchen, which has stainless steel worktops, a large Samsung stainless steel fridge freezer, and a feature red Bertazzoni Italian range with a six-ring gas hob and one large oven, Bosch dishwasher, stainless steel microwave and a large old oak table seating eight.
BEDROOM 1: This room has a continental king size bed, two matching bedside tables, a small antique chest of drawers and a large built-in wardrobe with a shelf and plenty of hanging space.
SHOWER ROOM: This room has a large shower cubicle with a chrome rain-head shower – all fittings are Duravit Happy-D designed by Phillip Starke. There's also a heated towel rail, a hand basin and a W.C.
BEDROOM 2: A small twin room with a bedside table, built-in wardrobe with shelves but no hanging space, and lots of games for the children.
BEDROOM 3: This bedroom has a continental king size bed and a bay window; there are two bedside tables, a small chest of drawers and a Shaker peg rail for hanging clothes.
BEDROOM 4: A twin room with a bedside table and a built-in wardrobe with shelves and space for hanging clothes.
BATHROOM: This room has a bath with Duravit Happy-D fittings designed by Phillip Starke, a heated towel rail, a hand basin and a W.C.
BACK GARDEN: There is a lawned back garden, with two weeping willows and plants at the sides. With great Meare frontage, there is jetty with a rowing boat, hammock available for guests' use. The large decked area at the back of the property is perfect for lounging on in the sun.
Other things to note
The beach is a 5 minute walk away – as are the pub (with good food) and two cafes. There is brilliant cycling – bring your bikes or hire them locally.
The Meare and the view are always spectacular. Rowing conditions can be unpredictable in the winter months, because of under-water weed and water levels. There is a Regatta that takes place mid August. The children love it and have entered the races in the past. Activities are not at our end of the Meare but you can hear them from the garden. There is also a fantastic firework display at the end of the regatta that you can watch bobbing from our boat in the middle of the Meare. The popular Aldeburgh Carnival is in early to mid August every year.
The house and garden are open to the Meare, so children need to watched around the water. We do not have insurance for you to use the boat – rowing is at your own risk.
