Denia: Lying beneath the heights of the Montgo natural park, historic, elegant Denia is a far less brash holiday resort than some of its neighbours. Inhabited by the Phoenicians and the Greeks, Denia was named in the honour of the Roman goddess Diana. English raisin-dealers lived here throughout the 19th century. The towns broad streets and solid buildings date from this time. Denia's main street - the Calle Marques de Campo is a broad tree-lined avenue and is a wonderful place to take an evening stroll around the many shops or sit at one of the cafe's and what the world go by over a cool drink & some tapas or an ice-cream for the children. Denia's famous 15th century castle houses a small archaeological museum. The picturesque old quarter near the fishing port is great to stroll around. From the port you can catch ferries running daily to the Balearic Islands. Or if the beach is more your thing then choose between Les Rotes (clear water off rocks) or La Marineta (safe clean sandy beaches).
