Excellent location, interesting property but needs some serious attention
Vierville-sur-Mer is a lovely tiny village, the beach is utterly beautiful, there is a small shop and a restaurant/hotel on the seafront. Close to plenty of D-Day WW2 sites to visit.
The property is a huge old manor house still being renovated, the bedrooms and bathrooms are mostly good, clean and comfortable (downstairs bedroom / bathroom not so much).
The downstairs of the property is an acquired taste, with dark rooms full of pretty ghastly furniture, pictures and stuffed animals of various types. Appears to be trying to replicate a ‘hunting lodge’ but it wasn’t terribly comfortable or well laid out.
Kitchen and utility room are both good with decent appliances and all clean and working.
It’s just the ‘lounge’ and dining areas, plus the utterly awful room on the far end that caused us consternation, it could all be SO lovely, one room has double doors leading out to the garden but awful ply wood on the walls and hideous stuffed foxes and deer heads - as I say, it’s an acquired taste, don’t let it put you off but it is quite strange and could be so much nicer, but I guess money is an issue to renovate it further.
Fabulous secure garden but be careful as the gardener left open a gate we had blocked closed and our dogs could have got out on the road - no harm done but need to keep an eye out.
The host / property manager was excellent pre-arrival, extremely helpful with queries and arranged a wheelchair to be at the property for our use, top marks to him.
