Carved Yurt - A luxury Mongolian-inspired Yurt in stunning 62 acre eco-friendly estate

Discover the spirit of nomadic living with a stay at Carved Yurt; one of 12 luxurious, spacious Mongolian-inspired Yurts nestled in 62 acres of historic Estate at the Fir Hill Real Glamping hideout.
Overlooking the stunning Porth Reservoir and Cornish countryside, the glamping site is less than 5km from the beautiful sand and surfer friendly beaches of Newquay on the north coast of Cornwall.
This eco-friendly estate is unique in that it is self-sustaining and totally off-grid. Perfect for lovers of the great outdoors it provides an unforgettable Yurtist experience away from the pressures of 21st century living. All the lights, WiFi, showers are run from sunlight and logs!
Communal facilities are centred around a couple of brand new barns, built on the site of the estate’s old cow shed, with a warm social space (and views of the Porth Reservoir), as well as modern toilets and shower rooms. An outdoor terrace, meanwhile, offers a south-facing space for soaking up the sun with a covered barbecue area alongside.
The prime location combined with the luxuriousness of the Yurts themselves gives Fir Hill an obvious appeal. But much of the place’s charm is also owed to the ethos. Part glamping site and part restoration of an estate that was long overdue its time in the spotlight, the site has been painstakingly restored and renewed with the environment in mind. Water comes from a bore hole, huge solar panels cover part of the cowshed roof and a Froling turbo log boiler allows the site to run off thermal energy when the sun isn’t out. The owners have also planted over 200 fruit trees to restore the abandoned orchards.
Carved Yurt is tastefully decorated and includes spacious accommodation for up to six guests. Comprising a king size bed and two double beds, all bedding and bed linen is included. The Yurt has its own kitchen shelter, outdoor seating terrace and firepit.

THE LAYOUT
The Yurt is made up of 5 material layers including a 12mm thick layer of 100% sheep wool felt, sourced from Mongolia, which keeps guests warm in winter and cool in summer.
As well as comfort, the Yurt has a diameter of 6.6m with floor space of 34.4m2. The side walls are 1.6m in height and the roof is up to 2.9m at it’s highest point.
Most other glampsites in the UK use smaller Yurts, but the extra diameter provided creates as much as an extra 8m2 of internal space!
Carved Yurt sleeps up to 6 people comfortably in one kingsize bed and two double beds.
Private personal cooking area with gas stove, cool box, running water for drinking and washing up, tea and coffee making facilities, food storage facilities as well as pots and pans.
Private terrace with a picnic bench seating six and barbecue/fire pit.

This eco-friendly estate is self-sustaining and totally off-grid.
Ten solar thermal panels and a Froling turbo log boiler set up to provide all the underfloor heating and hot water to the site's amenities.
There are two thermal stores which store all the hot water generated from the panels.
40 ground mounted solar PV panels ready to generate 10kw of power.
A battery storage room stores any energy that's been generated during the day ready to keep the site cosy and well lit in the evening.
Borehole and natural spring water supply.
NOTES
Smoking is not allowed inside any of the buildings or Yurts
Sorry, no pets are allowed at this Yurt
Sorry, no hen or stag parties
All vehicles must be parked in the designated parking area
Please bring your own towels and toiletries, wellies, slippers and a torch! A full list of suggested items to bring will be provided with your booking details.
Bike racks are provided, but not locks and chains.
Whilst there is a plentiful supply of wood provided, this can be a slow cooking process. Therefore you may want to bring your own supply of charcoal, or buy it locally.
The site is popular for exclusive hire, with all 12 Yurts being made available for group celebrations and weddings for 60+ guests. Please enquire for details. Corporate events and team building trips are also welcomed.
Real Glamping staff will be in attendance to look after alternative energy systems (biomass burner, log burners, battery management etc...).
There are multiple charging stations through the Cowshed. However there is no electricity in the yurts or its enclosure. Given electrical load issues (the Fir Hill is off grid), electric hairdryers, curlers/straighteners are not allowed ....or indeed any device that uses excessive electricity (eg power tools ....!), although not many folk bring these on hols...!!
Please drive slowly when entering the estate, especially if your car has low clearance.
