The house was built in 1980 and was designed by Suzana and Dimitris Antonakakis, two very well known Greek architects who have won numerous awards. They followed Hydra's traditional architecture while adding their own personal touch.
The property has been a life dream of my parents and in particular of my mother. She was the creative brain behind the eclectic interior decoration, which includes elements from other parts of Greece as well and in particular from the island of Skyros where my grandmother was from.
It consists of two separate buildings which are connected via a beautiful courtyard. The bougainvillea-filled courtyard features an idyllic outdoor dining area.
The main building consists of two floors. The ground floor features a spacious living room with fireplace, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The upstairs floor offers a second living room/desk area and a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. The bedroom has two single beds that can also be converted into a double bed. The upstairs floor also features, an impressive terrace with breathtaking views over inland Hydra and partial views of the port and the sea.
The second building consists of two bedrooms each one with an ensuite bathroom. The first bedroom features a double bed and the second bedroom features both a double bed and a single bed. Both bedrooms overlook the house's lemon tree garden.
This unique stone-built house boasts loads of character and is pleasantly spacious, with high ceilings and dreamy flourishing outdoor spaces. It offers the ideal privacy for a family or a group of friends. It is the perfect vacation house, all year round, since it offers both AC and heating, and a fireplace.
The house is situated in the Bouagia area on the back eastern side of the port. It is a beautiful and peaceful neighbourhood surrounded by nature with a breathtaking view of inland Hydra and partial view of the port and the sea.
The house is a 10-15 minutes walk from the port and is accessed via approximately 100 steps.
