Quiet relaxation
Well equipped and looked after and the owners local agent was very helpful even though he only spoke french (and possibly spanish) but I was able to dredge up my o-level french from over 40 years ago and we managed pretty well. The location was very quiet with hardly anyone about throughout the 4 weeks, although the area generally was beginning to get busy by the last week of June. Peniscola is an excellent location for a beach-centred holiday and has all the facilities that a family might want. Vinaros, just up the coast is very attractive and has a lovely promenade. Unlike the UK, big supermarkets are closed on Sundays, but the mini-markets can provide plenty of supplies to keep you going. We were able to hire a wheelchair for my wife from a pharmacy in Benicarlo, but her restricted mobility did limit the sightseeing possibilities as castles and cobbled hill towns are hard going for a wheelchair. On the other hand, the promenade at Peniscola is about 5k long and perfectly flat. Great it you can hire a bicycle. Communication with the french owner was fine with a little assistance fron online translation.
