Cozy Cottage Getaway

We came to the Azores for my daughter's wedding. My wife picked out this place from the pic's on your site. The place far surpassed the photos. Have never seen grounds that were so beautiful and the cottage was just as nice. Great owners, friendly neighbors. Easy access to the highway. If (or when) we come back, I would stay here once again.

Cottage calme et indépendant, située dans un environnement végétal digne d'un parc botanique. La propriétaire nous a reçu chaleureusement en nous informant soigneusement de toutes les possibilités touristiques de l’île. Peace and Tranquility!

After searching for many months hoping to find the ideal place to stay we were beyond delighted to have chosen to stay here! Eduino and Bonita are gracious hosts and our cottage was set in a little piece of paradise. There were bananas growing in more than one place, grape vines and a host of herbs to make tea or to enjoy in our cooking. How sweet it was each morning to sit on the front porch with a simple breakfast and enjoy the beautiful gardens and refreshing breeze. Our cottage was everything we needed. Quaint, super clean and a kitchen adequately stocked for the occasional meal cooked in. We were delighted we had the added bonus of an outside fire pit to grill our freshly caught fish. An additional plus was that the property was gated with only the owners and guests having a remote to get in. The location was superb, just a few minutes drive into Ponta Delgada and minutes from the beach and the market. We highly recommend this property and would definitely choose to stay here again!

Little Peace of Heaven

It isn't often that one finds a beautiful and serene place that allows quiet reflection, enjoyable company and "fruits of the land". Bonita and Ed you have created an amazing botanical sanctuary that made it hard to leave and head home. The enjoyment that you have in each other, your environment and your work is contagious. Your creativity and efforts shine in Quinta das Acacias and we were privileged to have stayed in your special place. Shelley & Mike (Canada) We would recommend this location which is close to Ponta Delgada, buses and shopping. Although we had no command of the language, we managed to shop and travel via the local buses and found the local people to be very helpful. Bonita and Ed were available with any queries we had and were helpful with their recommendations with travel and tours. Although March is usually a wet month we were blessed with dry and mostly sunny days. Warm clothes and layering is a good idea for hikes in the higher altitudes. We did not know what to expect at this time of year in the Azores and were impressed by how green everything was with a variety of flowering shrubs and plants. The European flare in the towns and cities were nice and we found the island to be generally very clean.

Our December Stay was fantastic!

First of all we cannot thank our hosts Ed and Bonita enough for all of the attentive service. The owners provided us with a list of their favorite restaurants, walking trails and unique special places that are off the beaten path. Also, they provided us a list of establishments that offer discounts to all of their guests. We were able to get special rates on our car rental, some restaurants, and hot springs visits. December was a great time to visit Sao Miguel, not only because of the low cost airfares that are offered but because at the Quinta das Acacias there is lots of color in the gardens, walking trails are to yourselves, and the birds have a lovely song during that time of the year. We rented the cottage with the king sized bed to be absolutely comfortable, one of the best nights sleeps. The bathroom was clean, the linens and towels were good quality overall the comfort level was quite good. The kitchen was equipped for preparing all of our meals with a nice kitchen table to eat on. Because we were visiting in December, we requested a cottage with a wood burning fireplace which ironically we never had to use because the weather was so warm 17C during our entire stay. Our favorite spot was outside under the covered deck, sipping our coffee while hearing the church bells at a distance. During the day we travelled to the city where we shopped at the colorful farmers market abundant with organic fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and a great butcher. We recommend the cheese store, impressive selection of local cured cheeses. There were many choices for lunch on the main avenue facing the Ocean; all were good and reasonably priced. One of our most memorable memories after one of our enchanting walks is soaking in mineral hot springs while gazing at the stars! Unforgettable! We highly recommend this accommodation Thank You!!! Schöne Tage im Gartenparadies

Die Parkanlage von Bonita und Ed ist wie geschaffen für einen Urlaub auf San Miguel. Zentral gelegen, dabei relaiv ruhig und in einer traumhaften Umgebung. Ein Korb mit den wichtigsten Lebensmitteln für den nächsten Tag erwartet einen bei der Ankunft. Bonita und Ed sind gerne zu Gesprächen und Hilfestellung bereit und können manchen guten Tip geben. Unser Haus war sauber und wirklich mit allem was man so benötigt, ausgestattet und einen eigenen Parkplatz hat man auch. Was will man mehr ? Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen gerne wieder. Perfect island paradise oasis

There aren't enough superlatives to describe Quinta das Acacias and the hospitality of Bonita and Ed Sousa. Long before our arrival at the Quinta, Bonita answered all of my questions via email very promptly and professionally. She offered to make a car reservation for us and secured a very good rate with Hertz. We were 2 women interested in hiking, horseback riding and outdoor activities and she offered great suggestions. Before our early Sat. morning arrival into Ponta Delgada Bonita had sent maps and a suggestion for a beautiful breakfast spot on the beach. She allowed us to check in early and gave us directions to a large grocery store so we could stock our beautiful cottage. We felt right at home in the cottage which was immaculately clean, had all the conveniences of home and is set in a garden setting of stunning flowers, sculptures and herbs. Bonita showed me where all the herbs were and encouraged us to use them for cooking. She even gave us a recipe. Bonita made reservations for us at a vegetarian restaurant in Ponta Delgada when she learned I was a vegetarian. She has lots of hiking trail maps available and recommended several of her favorites. She also told us about the hot springs at Poca Dona Beija in Furnas which felt heavenly after one of our hikes. Perhaps the highlight of our 8 day stay on the island was our full day of horseback riding that Bonita booked for us to Sete Cidades with Quinta da Terca stables just down the road from Quinta das Acacias. Sophie, our guide for the day, was lovely. She paired up rider and horse so that those of us who were novices felt comfortable. The horses were extremely well behaved and patient. We rode around the crater and had stunning views of the blue and green lakes way below. The weather was perfectly clear so our vistas were breathtaking. We then descended into the crater floor and rode around the 2 lakes, even coaxing our horses into the water to play. Lunch was a sight to be seen and enjoyed! We were treated to tables set up along one of the lakes with table clothes, china and glasses for our delicious home cooked tuna salad, fruit, bread, cheese and bottles of local wine. Ed is an artist, gardener, and wealth of knowledge about his homeland. He has created a peaceful haven for relaxation. The wall enclosed property is full of his creations and is a joy to come back to after a day of sightseeing. The location in the small village of Livramento is convenient to get to every place. A perfect place!

Perfect home base for exploring Sao Miguel

I spent three nights here and was very pleased with my stay. First and foremost, Bonita and Ed were perfect hosts - great sources of information, warm and friendly, but not obtrusive in the least. The property is just a few minutes by highway from the airport and downtown Ponta Delgada. There are restaurants and grocery stores nearby. When the gates to the property open, you face a lovely, spacious garden with guest cottages on the left and the owner's house on the right. The cottages look brand new - freshly painted, with modern appliances and comfortable furniture. It was absolutely spotless upon arrival. My kitchen had everything I could have wanted for self-catering. This would be ideal for someone staying for an extended time. Due to my relatively short stay, I ate dinners out but had breakfast "at home" and packed a lunch for hiking. There was a TV in my living room and wired Internet connection, though they let me borrow a wireless router in the room that worked great. To sum up, I heartily recommend this peaceful and comfortable property and its wonderful owners.

Aivan loistava majoituspaikka, rauhallisessa, kotoisassa, siistissä ja hyvin turvallisessa puutarhaympäristössä. Päivän kiertelyn jälkeen on niin mukava istahtaa mökin terassille nauttimaan lasillinen paikallista viiniä ja ihastella isäntäpariskunnan luomaa upeata puutarhaa, kuunnella pihassa viihtyviä lintuja ja haistella ilmassa leijuvia kukkien tuoksuja. Puutarhasta löytyy myös paljon isännän tekemiä jännittäviä taideteoksia ja siellä täällä voi lueskella aforismeja laatoista. Voit myös grillata ulkona tai loikoilla vaan riippumatossa. Mökissä on kaikki tarpeellinen pitempäänkin lomailuun esim. pesukone. Heti tullessa saat Bonitalta aimo annoksen tietoutta saaresta; ulkoilureiteistä, ravintoloista, nähtävyyksistä. Suosittelen paikkaa kaikille ja aivan erityisesti se on keidas kasveista ja taiteesta kiinnostuneille. 5 päivää oli aivan liian lyhyt aika tässä paratiisissa; seuraavalla kerralla pidemmäksi toviksi! Nyt kun talvi tekee tuloaan, ajatukset tulevat olemaan useasti Livramentossa.

Een fijne plaats, om het eiland te verkennen.

Quinta das Acacias is een heerlijke plaats om te verblijven en van hieruit het hele eiland te verkennen. De huisjes liggen in een prachtige tuin, wij hebben genoten van de bloemen en de vogeltjes, die 's morgens vroeg al beginnen met hun lied. We konden op ons overdekt terras genieten van de avondzon, helaas was die er niet zo vaak. Het weer is zeer wisselend, zo schijnt de zon, zo zit je in de wolken. We hadden op een gegeven moment onze regenjassen, vesten, zwemkleding, bergschoenen, slippers allemaal in de auto liggen. Als we op pad gingen zaten we zo altijd goed. Bonita en Ed zijn fantastische gastvrouw/man en weten veel van het eiland en zijn bezienswaardigheden, restaurants, activiteiten enz. enz.. Bonita had voor ons op de kaart alle mooie/interressante dingen aan gekruisd en we hebben bijna alles gedaan. Hoogte punten waren wel het walvis spotten, (dolfijnen en 2 walvissen gezien), alle pruttelende en borrelende bronnen, het zwemmen in de baden van Furnas (39 gr.), de kust en de prachtige uitzichten op verschillende miradouras. Wij waren er 10 dagen en dat is precies genoeg om het eiland São Miguel te verkennen en vanuit Quinta das Acasias is alles prima te bereiken. Wij hebben genoten! Kees en Ina Verheul. Garden Paradise on San Miguel

March 24th 2013 This is our last day here at Quinta das Acacias. My wife Anne and I have been here for one month and are leaving with mixed emotions. The weather this past month has been one of the worst Marchs on record, with rain, wind and more rain. If we had been staying anywhere else other than here at Quinta das Acacias we would have gone home earlier than planned. Our hosts, Bonita and Ed have been wonderful. They have gone out of their way to make our stay with them more than enjoyable. With their knowledge of the island and guidance, we were able to find the best places to dine and to purchase foodstuffs when we wished to eat at home in our more than comfortable cottage. The kitchen was well outfitted with lots of pots, pans and other cooking utensils. The little wood stove in the living area made the cooler evenings very comfortable as we sipped on the wonderful wines of the Azores and munched on fine San Miguel cheese. Ed has done a fabulous job with the gardens, as his artistic traits are displayed around every nook and cranny. The cottages are situated such that each one has a view of the beauty of the plants and trees around them but each one has been set so that there is lots of privacy for each. We not only enjoyed the beauty of the gardens, but we were able to eat some of their bounty. The bananas from the trees and the herbs under the trees added local flavour to the fish purchased fresh at the market. I can't say enough about the beauty of the island of San MIguel. It is a lush green garden with the radiant colour of the wild plant life along every roadway. It has to be seen in person to be appreciated. No photos or words can do it justice. We have travelled from one end of the island to the other, up and down all the back roads, over the mountains and into every town and city. Our holiday at Quinta das Acacias

We spent a week at Quinta das Acacias, it passed all too quickly. The cottages are situated in about 2 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens which are a credit to the owners, Bonita and Ed who lavish attention on every detail of their property. Quinta das Acacias is in a quiet location but within easy reach of the capital of San Miguel,Ponta Delgada. The cottage was superbly maintained and equipped, an ideal place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Ed and Bonita are exceptional hosts, really friendly and helpful, from first entering their website to arriving,(after midnight),and throughout our stay Bonita was there to offer help and advice if required, Ed is a talented artist and we admired his beautiful sculptures in the garden. We have no hesitation in recommending Quinta das Acacias to anyone who appreciates peace and quiet in lovely surroundings on an unspoiled island.

Heaven!!

When the gate swung open and I got my first glimpse of the stunning grounds that are the Quinta das Acacias I thought I was in the wrong place...someones private estate, a chic resort, Shangri la ??? I feel so lucky to have found this incredible place and imagine it will be a rare treat on my travels to find another that compares ...our immaculate cottage was perfectly equipped from the garden bbq to the perfectly equipped kitchen, there were even fresh herbs in the garden that we were invited to enjoy! But truely, the best part of this unique accommodation is the new friends we found in Ed and Bonita who both so obviously love their beautiful bit of paradise in the Azores. Eduino and Bonita Sousa made a life transition when they moved to Sao Miguel in 2006. Eduino , born on Sao Miguel, immigrated as a young boy with his family to western Canada, Alberta in 1968. He met Bonita in College. Throughout the years they have developed expertise in several career environments. Eduino´s profession as a welder developed into a successful art career in metal sculpting. His sculptures are displayed in Canada, United States, France, Belgium and the Azores. A private collection of his works is displayed in Quinta das Acacias; the only private sculptural gardens in the Azores. Bonita, born in Canada has worked more than two decades in sales, administration and bookkeeping. These career experiences have led Eduino and Bonita into a rewarding business of investment and property management.
After travelling to the Azores on vacation with their sons, they pursued the idea of purchasing a vacation home. In the process, they were introduced to Quinta das Acacias. They purchased the quinta in December, 2006 and opened the doors to world travellers in 2007 with new and improved operations. They continue to upgrade , update and renovated cottages throughout the years for their guests comfort.
Today, the proven success of Quinta das Acacias enables Eduino and Bonita to help outside visitors with the purchase and management of their dream vacation home,.
