Was würdest du träumen, schlafen in einem Baum? Utilas einziges Baumhaus

An Adventure to Remember
First we'd like to say that it was an adventure to remember and check off the bucket list. There are some things that should be in the listing such as possible extra charge for electricity if you use the A/C all day and that the area is prone to blackouts both scheduled and unscheduled which these can be rough in summer heat. Bucket shower on upper floor deck is great for cooling down, loved it. After looking at condition of some of the cooking utensils that had some rust and all there is to cook on is a little induction burner we opted to eat out since there are lots of reasonable delicious places to eat. Even though the main road isn't that long of a walk there is going to be a lot more walking to get to the places on the main road so highly suggest renting golf car as we did or other mode of transport. TukTuks are great but they too have a life and seem to thin out in the evenings and can be hard to get when you need them. Even though it is an adventure we really thought it to be overpriced for the condition of the treehouse and the lack of amenities and conveniences. The treehouse is unique and the view from top deck is beautiful and we did enjoy our stay thanks to all the great people who prepared us beforehand and the quick introduction by JJ of the treehouse. Also, Josie's at Pilot Town by the ferry dock made sure we stayed well fed. We will be going back but will definitely stay someplace that has back up generator.

One of the coolest experiences ever. Hosts were fantastic! Kitchen well equipped. We saw the other inhabitants of the tree but they definitely mind their own business. LOVE UTILA!

Perfect Getaway
We lived out our Swiss Family Robinson childhood dreams! You can tell the owners take great pride in this property. They paid attention to every detail. My favorite part was hanging out in the hammock on the top deck and enjoying the breeze. We would walk downhill to town and then take a Tuktuk back. This will be an experience that We will never forget!

It is amazing what lives in a single tree, adventure
The treehouse was exactly as pictured in the vrbo photos. It was clean, aircon and the shade of the tree kept us cool when needed and the views from the top were amazing. The shower has excellent water pressure for those of you with long hair. Our kids 10 and 12 loved exploring the tree ladders and platforms with us at night to see what animals would come out we had geckos, anoles, tree frogs, preying mantis (2kinds), bats, curly haried tarantulas Betsy and Bob, tree snail, katydids perfect for the nature lover and kid explorers. Communication was smooth with the property manager and wifi was good enough to do zoom calls for work. The only noise at night were the tree frogs, cicadas geckos and the wind in the tree leaves. Just a short walk to town and we cooked 2/3 of our meals in the kitchen here.

Family Vacation
I was so excited to stay in the tree house! We were the Swiss Family Robinson all week! It was a great choice for us and such a unique stay! My husband LOVED the bucket shower and the view from the hammock on the top floor was fantastic! A word of warning though....there are a few critters that will come and visit....but don't worry they are scared of you and won't hurt you a bit! Thanks to JJ for the hospitality!

Simply Awesome
This place is simply amazing, and the property managers and owners are exceptional. The treehouse is a real work of art and passion, so if you are looking for something special - look no further. Utila is laid back and great fun in the sun... but the treehouse is a calming refuge from the water activity. My nephew is 17 and he and I spent 5 days here and it was amazing. I am not sure when we might get back, but the peace and tranquility will be in our memories for a long time. Thanks to the owners and their team - an excellent experience!

Phenomenal place
Such an incredible place to stay. It is a treehouse nestled off the beaten path so there may be a few bugs, maybe a friendly lizard or spider but nothing that doesn't add to it's charm. Mosquitos are everywhere on this island though so make sure you have bug repellent! All in all I would highly recommend to friends and family, and will definitely return!

Trip to Remember!
We took our two girls 13 & 15 for the diving. The treehouse was great, we loved it. The diving did not disappoint. We went looking for Whale Sharks and found a pod of Pilot Whales, which were even more rare. We went sport fishing and caught a Barracuda that was bait for double hooked Marlin's. This was a trip of a lifetime. I would go back and I don't say that about many places:) The people were friendly and it seemed like they wanted to know you.

Cool place on a fun diving island
Great place and I would stay again. Loved the outside shower and views. The only downside is it is a bit out of the main town, but we rented transportation from Rooney's and it wasn't a problem at all.

Amazing Tree top experience!
My husband and I stayed in the Treehouse for a week and it was hands down the most unique, and beautiful place I've ever stayed! It's even more amazing than the photos and Tina and JJ went above and beyond to ensure we had a great trip. We don't dive but still had a ton to do on Utila including kayaking through the mangroves, exploring the island on the ATV we rented, eating at all the delicious restaurants, snorkeling and relaxing in the hammocks of the beautiful decks. The house's location couldn't be better: complete seclusion and privacy but very close to the adorable, clean and safe town of Utila. I was a little nervous that I may be too bug averse for something so adventurous, but the home is just that... truly a home in a tree versus camping like conditions and I'm glad that concern didn't deter me from this once in a lifetime experience. Thanks for sharing this amazing experience with us! -Joy and Zack

Everything we hoped for.
Secluded, private, quiet, natural setting on an island with some of the best diving ever. Short walk into town for excellent local cuisine with lots to see above water, (find the Jade Sea Horse"...) and always felt welcome and safe. Excellent support from the owners and property managers.

One of a kind experience
We stayed at the treehouse last week and it was such a unique experience. I highly recommend a stay here!! Property managers Tina and JJ were exceptionally excellent and made our stay that much more wonderful. Internet went out and they took care of it immediately. Stay here! You will not regret it.

What a magical stay!!
I cannot even begin to describe our amazing stay at the tree house. It far exceeded my expectations. The property and the house itself is absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend (now fiance- thanks to the tree house) and I went diving during the day and loved to come back to the tree house in the evenings to enjoy the view from the top deck with a glass of wine in hand. I was hesitant about staying in the tree house at first, especially with the mention of the tarantula, but I fell in love with it as soon as JJ and Tina gave us the tour. Compared to the hostels we had stayed at in the week prior, this was like a luxury hotel. It was peaceful and quiet, away from the noisy downtown area. If you are visiting Utila, this is a MUST SEE! It was the highlight of our two weeks in Honduras and the most memorable trip of our lives. I cannot wait to return. Thank you John and Amanda for sharing this lovely property with others. :) xoxo, Liz and TJ

A very beautiful property with the extremely rare opportunity to stay in a unique treehouse!
My wife of almost 3 years and I finally went on our honeymoon and stayed here for 5 of our 11 days on the island. We had a great stay in this one of a kind treehouse! This is on pristine property with coconut, papaya, and mango trees. The views from anywhere in the house or from the decks are absolutely amazing! This place will make you feel like a kid again. It is built into and surrounded by a huge fig tree that is full of life. The view from the upper deck will make you feel like Tarzan, looking over the top of the jungle all the way to the ocean! It is beautifully built with much care and heart, and gave us a back to nature feeling. It was very relaxing and soothing to be there. It is located on the edge of town, nicely secluded but close enough to walk everywhere we went. The restaurants, shopping, groceries, watering holes, and public beach are all within walking distance. The home had everything we needed and was in great condition and very clean. They even had fresh flowers and wine for us! We just brought in some groceries and were set. You can even have them delivered! The owners and managers(JJ and Tina) are all awesome people who we were happy to have met and very helpful. They made it easy for us to reach them for anything by providing a cell phone with their numbers in it. They really went to unbelievable lengths to make sure we were happy and having a great stay, and we would recommend this to anyone who needs a relaxing getaway in a beautiful natural setting. Holy crap.
We found the site online somehow and decided to stay there. It was fantastic! Wife was pretty terrified for the first day of all the spiders, lizards, and tarantulas (Betsy and friends) that reside on the property and beautiful fig that the treehouse resides upon. The emotion quickly changed to awe and wonder as we spent time amongst the shade of the vegetation. We both grew to absolutely love the air conditioned space and the magic of the evening bats feasting upon the fruit of the fig. Cannot recommend the place enough. JJ and Tina, the local managers, were more than willing to accommodate any personal needs during our stay. I highly recommend the outdoor shower in the morning and after you return from a day of diving the local reefs (with a cold Salva Vida). You will kindle a reminder of the something you hold dear, for certain. This place is for children of all ages. Thanks Amanda and John for such a beautiful, jungle experience!

Amazing time and experience!
Months before we stayed at the Utila Treehouse, we had heard about the amazing place that was Utila. Everything we heard was right! The treehouse was a great way to stay there too! Well before we ever got there Amanda and JJ were great about helping organize logistics including setting up our flight from Roatan to Utila. Having someone local to organize that aspect of going to a new place was great. JJ and Tina met us when we got there and gave us a comprehensive tour of the treehouse and explained how things worked. Everything we needed was there at the treehouse. The kitchen was more than enough to make simple meals which was what we mostly ate anyway. The chest refrigerator was nice to have so we could store fruit and food we cooked and eat more as the weeks went by. The hammock was a great place to just chill and relax. The outdoor shower was very refreshing and after walking around all day it was a perfect way to cool off. We slept the entire time in the bed in the main house next to the kitchen just because it was easier. They provided well maintained screens that could be put in the windows, so we could open the windows and create a very nice cross draft which meant we didn't even use AC for the entire week we were there! There was a pretty steady breeze generally up there which kept us very cool. The books provided in the place were very helpful. Specifically there was a book about snorkeling and diving in the Bay Islands; I read the Utila sections completely. I am so glad that I did because it led us to our first amazing snorkeling adventure at Bando Beach which only cost $3 per person and might have been one of the most amazing reef snorkeling experiences that I have ever had! They thought of just about everything we would need including providing very strong Central American coffee. The flashlight and head lamp provided were extremely helpful because coming home after the sun set could be a bit challenging without them (especially after a few drinks at many of the lovely local watering holes - and why wouldn't you have a few at the amazing prices there?!). We found that walking down into town in the mornings doing whatever activity we wanted for the day, then getting a tuk tuk back to the tree house (since the trip back is all uphill) for 60 lemps was the best route to go. Getting a quick rinse off and nap in before walking back down for an evening in town and then a tuk tuk back home worked out really well for us. Great trip

Wonderful, relaxing, secluded, yet close to everything.
My husband and I escaped to the treehouse following a busy Christmas week with my entire family on the big island of Roatan. It was so nice to be "away from it all" on Stuarts Hill, yet close enough for a short walk to town for snorkeling or dining, and everything on Utila was easily accessible. After walking or biking back to the house from the days' activities, the outdoor shower was so refreshing. You can definitely tell the house was created out of a real love of nature by someone with a true skill for woodworking. As the tree constantly grows and changes, I think it will be interesting to see how the tree and house entwine and mold each other. Staying in the treehouse was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone who never lost that little kid inside them who was always climbing on trees and daydreaming of Never Never land.

Don't Stay ANYWHERE Else!
My wife and I spent our honeymoon in the treehouse. Most fun place we have ever stayed. It's absolutely beautiful. It's Robinson Crusoe on the outside and a beautifully appointed bungalow on the inside. Amanda and John couldn't be better hosts, and Float Utila is not to be missed. We are actually planning another warm getaway for this winter and usually only travel to places we've never been before, but we can't help but talk about returning to the Treehouse (even though we were just there in June!). It was just so much fun.

We love the treehouse!
Our family of three had a wonderful stay in the treehouse. It's amazingly lovely, and my ten-year-old daughter loved spending time watching the geckos, iguanas, birds and even the shy tarantulas. Amanda helped us with a myriad of small and large details, and John and their helper Marvin brought us fruits and made us very comfortable. We would recommend it to any slightly adventurous traveler looking for some peace and quiet on a beautiful island.

Great stay in the treehouse!
The treehouse is a great place to stay! It is clean, incredibly unique, and an amazing experience. It was incredible to wake up to the sounds of the jungle and the incredible views. The hammocks and balconies are perfect spots to spend afternoons relaxing. The treehouse has everything you need to cook, towels are provided, even bikes to ride into town! We felt very secure, and so well taken care of by the owners, who were incredibly gracious and really think of everything. You definitely won't regret staying at the treehouse, it is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity!

WOW, just WOW!
What can I add that hasn't already been said? The treehouse is amazing! It's far enough from town to stay out of the chaos but close enough to be able to run into town for dinner, supplies, etc. The accommodations are probably the top on the island - clean, well equipped, comfortable beds, air conditioning, and stunning scenery and oh yeah, it's a treehouse (how cool is that?) John & Amanda are the sweetest people I've ever met - she answered my numerous questions about the island and even helped us out with a sought out dinner reservation at Chez Lola. My husband & I are scuba divers so we rented a 4 wheeler to get to/from town & the dive shop with all our gear & it worked perfectly for us. It only took us 1 day to acclimate to the culture of the island & we can't wait to go back!

Best Place to Stay, Best Owner Operators, Period.
I have traveled all over Central America and the Caribbean and have stayed in too many places to count. This treehouse is hands down the best run, most amazing and magical place I have ever stayed in. If you are on the fence and trying to decide if you'd rather stay somewhere else on Utila, stop it! This is where you should stay. It is secluded and away from the noise of town, it is so unique and artistic, that you'll discover new things about it even after staying there a week, it has an outdoor shower with a view, some mornings Marvin, who works on the large farm situated on the property, delivers fresh fruit like watermelon or bananas, and Amanda and Jon (the owners) are the most accommodating and lovely couple you could ever hope to meet on your travels anywhere in the world. Simply lovely people. I really can't say enough good things.

Playing in a treehouse!
When I first found the treehouse I was over joyed! Who doesn't want to live in a treehouse? Amanda is amazing! she helped my boyfriend and I with any questions we had, the food recommendations oh so tasty! Waking up in the treehouse to the birds outside was a dream, the view from the decks breathtaking, she had a bottle of wine as a welcome gift :) coffee and a phone to use ( it helped so much ) overall it was an experience I will never forget! I was pleasantly surprised how easy booking it was, no complications. I received my deposit back a day after leaving :) Amanda and John are beautiful people! The kind you don't meet often :) I have already recommend it to my friends who dive!

Get Away From the Noise & Enjoy the Best View on the Island
My husband and I spent the month of February living in this exceptionally beautiful treehouse. It seemed like an opportunity too unique to pass up. When we arrived with our backpacks and Amanda showed us the small section of the tree you actually have to climb we were a little intimidated. After the first day we not only got over our anxiety, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of navigating the tree (nothing too strenuous) to make our way to bed each night. Living in a tree is not for everyone. Nature is all around you in the form of birds, lizards, spiders and of course the cows and sheep that graze in the valley below. But, after a long day in the sun, the bike ride up the hill is rewarded with a strong cool breeze that keeps the sand flies away unlike anywhere else you might stay on the island, and a open-air bucket shower with a stunning view of Pumpkin Hill and the sea. If you are going to Utila to snorkel or dive but you aren't interested in being in the middle of the small but rambunctious nightlife, seriously consider the treehouse. It provides everything you need to rest and rejuvenate so that you can return home with a sense of peace and deep gratitude. As mentioned in other reviews, the owners are the kind of people you wish you had as neighbours and friends. You will be treated with a genuine kindness and hospitality that makes the experience worth far more than the price you'll pay.

Living HIGH in Utila
We decided to visit Utila as soon as I discovered they had a tree house we could rent. Even with lots of rain, it was a perfect visit! A tree house with lots of windows is a great place to weather the storm. The accommodations were wonderful and the owners were most friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the convenience of having bicycles available to use to explore the island. Everything went smoothly - making reservations, being picked up at the airport, answering our questions, and finally arranging for a taxi for our departure. The location was FUN - away from town a bit, but close enough for frequent, pleasant walks. We LOVED our treehouse stay - it was an ideal vacation spot!!

John first came to Utila in 1997 while on a backpacking trip from Guatemala to Panama. One day, while on a walk, he came across Stuart's Hill and fell in love. He sought out the local owner, begged to buy the property, and never made it to neighboring Nicaragua, let alone Panama. In 2001, John left Scandinavia for good and has called Utila home ever since. He soon began the process of creating the treehouse, his dream home on the rock, a loving vision.

In 2006, a vacationing public radio producer from the USA met a handsome Viking on his way out of his island house to buy paint thinner. A few months later she would sell all her belongings, quit her job, and move to Utila with nine boxes of books, a suitcase of clothes, and her faithful dog, Ella. There they would make a family, renovate a big yellow house, build the world's largest sensory deprivation room (Float Utila) and rent out a magical treehouse. Didn't see that coming.

Now John and his young family are traveling the world, but the treehouse will forever be a creation near and dear to him, something to share with those who are seeking an extraordinary experience.
